Hey guys. I’m currently stuck with this dilemma. My voltage regulator burnt the attaching harness to the point where I cannot detach it. On top of that the wires leading to the harness of the car also were damaged. Any idea how I’m gonna get out of this one? Thanks! 712E7FCE-12C9-451C-92A4-21C297D1B19C.jpeg E67D0EDD-24B3-4682-AF07-B5E7FD3199D3.jpeg 028A76D0-EC84-4A95-9D41-3E493D17FD05.jpeg

I have the regulator with wiring harness from my 72 v8 car I will let you have for shipping price, if it was me I would step up to one of the newer one wire alternators and do away with the regulator and wiring. Might be a expensive but well worth the price.

Thank you! But I have a straight 6 250 1974, do you know if the parts would be compatible? Also when you mention the one wire alt, what exactly does it substitute aside from the voltage regulator? Any recommendations where I can get a good one?

Have to ask - was everything stock?

If so, I would not trust my old stuff - I would put in everything new (or new to me like in taking Mike's offer for his old stuff ...... :))

I assume everything between the 250 6 and 302 would be the same it just plugs into existing harness and regulates voltage needed to keep battery charged and voltage steady to electrical devices when car is running.

A one wire alternator is like the title states you only have one wire going from alternator to battery side of starter solenoid and gives you lots more amperage which will help make lights brighter especially when car is at low idle and helps with add on parts such as a stereo and amp

Yeah looks like the field terminal on regulator burned... Usually there isn't enough current on this terminal to cause such damage... If I had to guess I'd say the offshore regulator had a issue... Of course now the regulator, wiring and possibly alternator are toast...

With a one wire you need to install a volt meter/gauge as the alt light on dash will be useless... I'm not much on the one wire, if it craps the bed you're walking, at least till you can locate another... I figure any auto parts store has a stock alt & regulator...

I say get rid of all that harness wiring and go w/ 1 wire. I've had a 1 wire 130 amp aftermarket for 6 years and no problems - Love it. Cleans up the fender apron, and a simple hook-up, no figuring out how to repair 40+ year old harness.

The voltage regulator was replaced maybe like a year ago, the battery and alt weren’t old either.
I had replaced the regulator alt and battery since owning the car (as far as electrical related parts).

I do not. What would be the best method to figure it out?

Where did you get your one wire alt? What other parts did you have to replace along with the alt?
