Cool, thanks for the compliment! Yes, I'm getting into more fabrication, I really like it. My next big one is a transmission adapter plate for the Bobcat Wagon to mate the 4r75w trans to the 2.0L Ecoboost. I'm creating the template from 1/2" acrylic right now and will then transfer it to 1/2" aluminum plate. I'll keep you in mind!
So, I've been able to fix all the pictures that are in my separate restoration articles. This complete restoration thread is next, but it is going to take me some time. On the bright side, I'm motivated to get back on my Comet after looking through all these pages and pictures! I'm hoping that I can carve some time out this summer to get my floor pans finished, knock out the rusted cowl and move on with this beast! We've put up another building, so it will free up some much needed space around the Comet.
Ok... all (or close to all) the pictures are fixed! My Restoration Thread is useful again. And, going through these threads and pictures has me motivated again! Let's see what I can get to tinkering on...
This is the only Comet I have seen w/ a hood tach other than my Comet. I have been to a few MCCI and Gatherings and have not seen another in person or picture. What suspension setup in the prior post?
Parts and parts. Ready to setup the differential with 31 spline Detroit TrueTrac, 3.25 gears with Dr. Strange holding it all together.
ooohhh.. aaahhhh.. saaa..weeettt! Be sure to take care of that rust right away.. Rusty. See what I did there? Looking forward to your build.. about damned time! Course.. you could say the same thing about mine too.
I know! Rain got into a place it wasn’t supposed to! I’ll polish them back up, no problem. I’m excited too, might not go fast, but I’m gonna try and keep at it.
You know the old rule when it comes to gears, Rusty. If it can't make em' go fast?.. then just make em' go quicker! Always a tradeoff without an overdriven trans and just depends on the driving you do more than anything, but even if I'm still doing this stuff when I'm 90?.. I hope I never want to go below 3.50's!
My gears may seem boring, lol. But a 3.27 1st with a 351w based stroker should still pull away from a stoplight.
I've heard it said ... " It's not the YEAR.. But the MILEAGE !! Steady as she goes !!! Cometized (Chip)
Lol.. I'd like to rescind my previous remark as I now stand corrected. Higher torque and extra torque multiplication factor changes everything.
I hear you, Chip. But I'm guessing mileage wasn't Rusty's main motivation for stuffing that bigger stroker in there in the first place. Been a long time since I've had a hotrod without on OD trans. Gonna suck pretty bad for both my ears and my wallet. Top gear pulls up to around 140 are gonna be crazy wild sounding too.
Long time no post, I know. But I’m still tinkering. Found a solid foundation for my 351W build. A fresh, small bore, wet sump SVO block.
