You didn't provide us much information to work with. Is this issue something new? Did your Comet previously run well? What is the engines state of tune? Has anyone worked on it?

I've had it for about three weeks and it never did did this til yesterday after I put gas in it, I don't know the engines tune, the elderly woman who gave it to me didn't provide much information about it, I haven't taken it to my mechanic yet, looks like I'm going to have to tow it there so he can over it tomorrow.

Could be anything, you're not providing anything useful here. It's obviously been sitting for long periods. If you can't do your own work, you'd better have deep pockets to pay that mechanic.

If the car has been sitting for long time,, you basically need to start from scratch. All fluids need replacement, brakes, suspension ignition etc.,etc needs examining and lot of the things probably needs replacement. I agree w/ prior posting; on having deep pockets if your not mechanically inclined. Lastly, inquire if your mechanic is component working on 40+ year old cars. If not, find someone who is...JMO

Sounds like you purchased some bad gas, possibly with water in it.

Check with station you bought gas, if you're only one with issue isn't likely the gas.

With size of storage tanks, only one person getting bad gas is highly unlikely.

Thanks guys, I've asked a few of the older guys at my job said could also be timing is off? And it could be the air/gas ratio needs adjusting? Also, just need a carburetor replaced?

The adjustment screw or screws are in the base of the carburetor. You have not told us if this is a six cylinder or V8.

You really need to know what you are doing before you start "adjusting" things. More than likely the fuel/air mixture screw is not the problem. The carb probably needs rebuilt. As stated.....if this car has been sitting a long time....you will have lots of issues.

Lol, yes true. I watched a video on YouTube on how to replace a carburetor, doesn't look complicated, are two barell carbs for bigger motors and replace with that or keep it single?
