I went to head out into the garage today. The 100+ heat factor hit me square in the face and made me want to go back into A/C ASAP.
That's been my issue as well. Park the cars in the garage after work and the temperature soars. We're supposed to hit 111 on Thursday, not looking forward to that!
Made some decent progress Saturday morning..... It's been sitting for a couple weeks so I went ahead and retorqued the heads..... Then I installed and lashed the rockers using a set of the Comp Cams XD-A Adjustable push rods for LS engines, they are on the expensive side but you get a shit load of shims in the kit(less expensive then an adjustable rocker conversion)….. I had to have something to adjust the lash since I decided to try the Comp Short Travel Lifters, It took a little time to do the rockers with them but with shims in .004 increments you get a very precise adjustment..... I also got the headers, valve covers, spark plugs, coils and wires all back on..... It's actually starting to look like something again.....
Today I put all the steam port fittings back on, installed the center engine harness and bolted the intake back on..... Then I connected all the coils, injectors and senders that are on it..... That's all I had time for today.....
Hi Frank: The ' Bracings in place are ' Beautifully done .. Kudos ! ( Looking good !!) Cometized (Chip)
Frank October 27th I'm hosting a mini meet at the Ocala Pumpkin Run 8am till 4pm it's a huge 3 day car show with a swap meet. If you can make it, go to ocalapumpkinrun.com and get your ticket. It's Friday the 26th thru Sunday the 28th. The meet is on Saturday the 27th.
I will look in to it and let you know..... There is a race at Bradenton that weekend that we usually go to so we will see....
I messed with the a little this weekend..... I drove it around some today, made a couple test blasts..... It seems to be running pretty good, makes about 17.6lbs the way it is now..... Check the logs out and everything looks good..... I did pull the radiator before I leaft the shop, so I can add a pressure transducer to the cooling system as suggested to me..... I just seems like a good idea to know it the cooling system is seeing any excess pressure.....
All right, I got everything all back together and working including the new coolant pressure sensor..... As it turn out there was some kind of a tune-n-test today at Showtime Speedway, so I said why the F#!% not..... I went out, cooled the car and made the first hit..... Car felt a little flat, kina of like when it blew the head gasket..... All was good with the motor, but it looks like my new custom built converter sucks the big one..... I cooled it off and made another hit, same shit and the trans got way hotter then it has in the past..... When I got to the et shack after the second pass, the guy there said something smelled hot(the motor was only 170)….. When I got back to the pits I stuck my hand under the car and the converter was extremely hot..... I am still foot braking the car, when I staged it for the second pass I loaded to 3200 and bumped in and while I was waiting on the tree it flared all the way up just over 4000 on it's own..... The converter flashed to 5200, the other odd thing it does is it has a kind of gradual rpm gain to about 5650 the ramps at least twice as fast to 6300 where I shift(it doesn't seem loaded the same,it also loses a couple #'s of boost during the upper rpm)….. After the shift it drops back down to about 5400 and has the same slow ramp as in low up to 5600(that's as far as I care to go, it's only an 1/8 mile track.....With the other converter it had a very linear smooth rpm ramp, I was just overpowering that converter(it on had about a 3-400 rpm drop at the shift)….. I am going to check the trans and make sure it didn't get hurt(I don't think so), and put the other converter back in and see how it acts..... The pass it blew the head gasket was the first with the new converter, I figured it didn't feel great due to the blown gasket..... Apparently that wasn't the only reason..... Now due to the head gasket it has gone through a few other changes(heads, gaskets and lifters)….. So putting a know converter in it will tell me if there are any other issues..... At least I think it will.....
Maybe talking with the guy that built the convertor may be in order. That flare while staging doesn't sound right at all. You weren't putting full power into it at that point. Congrats on getting it back to the track. The weather was about as hot and humid as you can get. Our A/C at home has struggled the last two days around 4 PM for an hour or so. Time to get it topped off, I guess.
