Greetings fellow Maverick and Comet Enthusiasts, For many years now I have been working tirelessly to bring you good quality reproduction parts. After successfully getting the door panels reproduced, many complained of the pricing and sadly not that many sets have sold as most preferred a foreign made product and vendor. Afterwards, I was able to begin working with Carpenter Industries and have sent him boxes of items for reproduction. As of Friday afternoon, I was sent an email that stated once a few items are finished, they will no longer be looking at reproducing any Maverick parts for some time. The deciding factor has been sale totals of the quarter window trim (boomerangs). A large amount of money went into tooling for this item and only 30 pairs have sold. What this means is, if it takes years to sell the items that have been reproduced, that vendor will not make anymore of that item once the last sells. I must say, I am disappointed. I read in numerous places that so many want to be able to open a catalog and order any and everything they need for a Maverick/Comet, yet when a quality vendor steps up to the plate for "us", "we" turn our back on them. Yes, Dynacorn is planning on releasing future sheetmetal products, but if they hear the sale stats on the items that have already been reproduced, they too will probably pull out of the Maverick part reproduction business. Just wanted to share. Please feel free to share this in other forums.
That is very disappointing to hear. I think part of the problem is people are not aware that some of the parts have even been released. Would it be possible to do a large group buy on the boomerangs, Which would Lower the price a bit and increase their sale stats? Unfortunately the door prices were a bit high and that is a major deterrent for most people when there are cheaper option available.
The problem would be this William, if a "large group" got together and bought these, then the "large group" would also face the same problem and be stuck with them,.. with no one willing to buy. As for the door panels, the pricing only seems high because there was another to compare it to, which is nothing like the OEM panel in detail.
Hello Mr. Kelley: I purchased TWO sets of the Boomerangs and have yet to install them onto the cars.. ( busy ..) Do these people make boomerangs that DON'T fit UNDER the chrome trim ?? If so , I'll buy a couple more sets. The units I have not have a slight ' step ' on the ends that slide UNDER the trim that's around the bottoms of the windows. Just curious . Cometized (Chip)
Hi Chip, As of now, the squared corner quarter window trim is all that is available and with such poor sales, I doubt the rounded corner will be reproduced for awhile if at all.
I did not mean for resale, I meant for personal use. If you have a say 100 people wanting to buy them at once then you should have bulk pricing which would reduce the price by say $20-$30. It wouldn't be a massive purchase but it would show that there is some profit In these.
This is exactly what I was afraid of. People almost demand these parts, but they want them at Mustang prices. To get Mustang prices you have to sell at Mustang quantities. Personally at this time I do not have a need for some of these repo parts, but when my originals are shot or damaged, I will pay the repo price and be glad I can get them. Heck, I have been considering a new set of door panels even though mine are in fine condition, just because they are now available and I like some of the designs better than the ones I have. I will soon be in the market for upholstery as well. I would have gladly paid for a repo front valance instead of stripping and hammering on an old used one, but at the time that was all that was available. I still believe there is and will be a larger market for these cars and parts, perhaps some of these vendors are just out ahead of the curve at the moment. Then again there are people screaming for small bumpers left and right, but if you put out repo ones for say $350 each, these people disappear. Never mind if it will cost you more than that to have a crappy bent rusted one straightened and rechromed. How many Grabber hoods have been sold compared to the number of people previously clamoring for them? There comes a time when it is time to pay up or shut up, and with this, it may be that time.
Hi William: If these folks stop making the boomerangs ( I have TWO sets and only ONE car can use them ) Lemmeno if you need a set . The type I have are the ones that slide UNDER the chrome trim at the base of the rear window ..I'd sell them to you for what I paid for them if push comes to shove and you can't find them .. lemmeno . Chip
Sorry to hear this. I bought a set of the door panels when they were first released. I also plan on getting a set of the boomerangs in the future.
Don't fret over the boomerangs, there are plenty in stock, they just aren't selling as well as anticipated. It would be fair to say, once they are gone, it's highly unlikely more will be made.
I have plans to order those as well, I'll do that sooner than later. Not out of fear they'll be gone but as good faith to show there are buyers for the parts.
True, but made to their specs which include a slightly thicker metal than OEM... so their tooling cost is high.
