I have a 302 from my old 70 F100 that was rebuilt 17 yrs ago. Strong motor and has about 80k on it. My son has lost interest in his 72 maverick. It has a 250 in it. Will the c4 from that bolt directly to my 302 along with the flywheel...tc? Is there anything I'm overlooking to do this swap? I'm still going for a 347 and stronger trans but it'll be a few years. For now I just want that v8 sound back because I miss it and the car will finally sound like it looks.
The trans will fit fine, it has the correct bell housing. You will need a new flywheel and torque converter for the V8 though.
Other than needing a 157T flexplate with 28 oz balance, everything should fit. The 250 is zero balanced, so you'd have a giant paint shaker if you reuse that flexplate. AFAIK all 157T flexplate have same bolt pattern, the 250 converter should have a bit higher stall vs a stock 302.
I bought a c4 out of a Granada that had a 250. I used the torque converter, and purchased a 164 tooth 302 flexplate as the donor car (1980) had a 164 tooth flexplate. Tooth count must match what the trans was mated to, AND have the 302 28 ounce imbalance.
Are you going to use headers? heheheh.....you will encounter a bit of heartburn if you want column shift.
Where can I get this harness? Also ill need a throttle cable for the 302. Ill be using a 4barrel Holley or maybe an edelbrock.
I used a throttle cable and mount from a v8 Granada. I had to mess with the manifold mount a little bit. I have a "torker 289" manifold with a holley 1850. I used this set up because of access; I dont know what would be considered optimal.
