I KNOW this is worse than trying to find a needle in a haystack, but....In 1979 I owned a 72 (I have no paperwork on the car now) Mercury Comet Stabber. It was medium green, black interior, no side pipes but had the teardrop tach. While it did have the Comet GT black stripe it also had lighter green pinstriping with the script logo of Stabber By Pugmire. Also had some other highlighting pinstripe on it. It was a three speed manual also. Engine was a built 302 and had severely modified suspension. When I bought it in Vidalia, Ga I went to the previous owners house to show him. He was a white lab coat kind of mechanic. He asked if I had noticed the suspension upgrades (along with the strong motor). I said no and he asked if he could show me. He drove the car and we proceeded to drive around these very curvy neighborhoods. That car drove around 90 degree turns like it was on rails! I remember his last words were "don't be scared to race Corvettes or sports cars because they can't keep up!". And it would get rubber in all 3 gears easily. I moved to Atlanta and while working as a fork lift operator at Crown Door Company in Hapeville, my marriage was falling apart. We were living in a hotel near the company. I joined the Air Force and the plan was to leave the car at my parents when I went to boot camp. About two weeks before boot camp I was on the forklift in the back of the warehouse and one of my friends said there was a wrecker out front about to take my car. I raced (on a forklift) to the front in time to see this wrecker pulling out with my Stabber in tow. With everything going on, my assumption was my car had been repossessed. It was only years later when I learned things, that I realized that being 3 days late on a payment (for the first time in 2 years) does NOT cause a bank from south Georgia to come find me in the Atlanta area and grab my car. With no VIN and no paperwork, I know I have no reliable way to find the car. I never reported it stolen. But it was financed through a bank in Mt. Vernon, Ga. (Montgomery County Bank) and I did write to them but never got a reply. I THINK I know who had the insurance on it too (State Farm). I figured nothing ventured, nothing gained and am throwing one hail mary here. Any ideas or suggestions (or maybe you have seen it or "own" it now) would be welcomed. I got another Comet GT in '82 but it was just not the same. I sold it in 1996. Hey thanks for reading if ya got this far!
Good Luck my friend. I believe, if you have the resources, you can hire a detective to track it down.
Welcome from Virginia! I'm pretty sure there was a dark green Comet Stabber for sale in Georgia in the past month or so for $3,800. It was a 3 speed manual. It was on Craigslist. I just looked and I don't see it listed anymore. Good luck with your search!
A 72 Stabber in Ga was offered here in 2018, maybe the same car? http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/1972-gt-stabber-pugmire-edition.116491/
I remember that car, but I don't think that is the same car that was listed on Craigslist. I didn't think the car on Craigslist had a different color door on it, but I could be mistaken.
