What axle gear are you running with your T5’s??

I'm ready for Spring and Summer!

 

Using Tremecs calculator the 3.36 first gear, 4.10 rear and 27" tires would be almost exactly where my Tacoma was in first with the six speed. I had no issue with that for daily commuting but it may be a bit short for spirited driving. I have 3.50 and 4.10 ratios in the garage, still undecided on which to use, might buy something in the middle as a compromise.

 

We will have to see once we get the new tires on. I personally think a 3.55 or 3.80 gear might be better.

 

I'll be interested in hearing what you think. I have run 4.10s in most of my cars but they were automatics so you didn't notice a short first, it just slammed second and away you went. The Tacoma would easily hit 35-40 in first but it took longer to get there than the Maverick will when it hits the road. If I were to buy one more traclok I could have both ready to swap and it wouldn't be an issue.....

 

The motor is a 306 roller motor with a B303 cam. It has flat top pistons, ported and polished 289 small chamber heads with 2.02/1.60 valves. It has a Victor Jr. intake and a Holley 650 double pumper carb, long tube headers with 2 1/2" exhaust.

It feels like it run pretty good.

I run 4.10's with 28 x11.50 tires.

 

I figured I'd give my 2 cents here. I daily drive my maverick, with a T5 and 3.80's I found it quite annoying to drive, as I'd run out of 1st gear far to quickly. In wet conditions it was far to easy to get the rear tires to turn over, even when i didn't want them to. Went to 3.55s and It's absolutely perfect for in city, the highway, and everything in between. It's important to note I don't take it to the strip, it's a driver, so my experience is different from most weekend warriors

 

The 5.0 Mustangs used 2.73 gears with 3.08 optional with all HO from '85 using the World Class 3.35 1st. The '83 & '84 used the non- World Class, those had 2.95 1st as do the aftermarket WC.

Of course the FI engines produce lots of torque at low RPM. Still I'd think with a stockish carbed engine(or even mild cam), the 3.50 would be a good all round gear, then I despise having engine maxed out at 20-25 mph.

 

Just thought I’d post the T5 ratio chart I found the other day.
There’s word that my 94 doner car had the trans swapped out for a Thunderbird unit, so I’ll have to wait to figure out which one I have.

 

Phil, what size rear tire are you running?

 

I was running shitty 225s at the time. 245s high performance now. According to my tag and that chart my T5 has 3.35 first
