The Old Family Car is a 1977 Comet

This picture is from the day we picked her up.

The Texas drought really makes a dramatic backdrop.

The boy couldn't wait to get behind the wheel.

Even if it was still on the trailer.

 

What's up with the grille? I don't think it is right for the car.

 

It's a Maverick grill mounted on a Comet.

 

Yes it is a Maverick Grill. My boy is wanting to get it changed out. I keep telling him we need to get other work done before we worry about the grill. Our biggest challenge right now is finding the plastic bracket for the back of the instrument panel.

 

Well the boy and his grandpa fixed the most important part of the car The Comet now has a new radio and speakers! lol It makes me smile to see the boys get so excited about working on this car.
*still have not gotten the cluster panel piece so we can put the dash back together and get it inspected.

 

Have you posted a wanted ad for the cluster piece yet?

I'm sure someone will have one. I have a couple Comet grilles when you get to that point.

 

It has been well over a year since my mom has been on here I’m assuming, this is actually her son that drives the car every day to and from school now, I thought some of you’d like to see what it looks like now, we’ve gotten the cluster panel, I’ve replaced the original speaker in the front dash, added more in the rear, changed the radio, we’ve rebuilt the carburetor, changed the sparkplugs, plug wires, and roter and cap on the distributor, put a new float on the sending unit for the fuel gauge, and replaced the alternator and belts, along with gave it a simple spray paint job with rust reformer to try to keep the rust from getting to much worse. this is what it looks like now.....
the engine picture is a little bit older and is before we replaced the alternator, but it still looks better than it did when we got it

As you can see we got the new cluster panel in along with a cb radio and a tachometer
Unfortunately someone backed into my passenger door, but it’s not that bad, a dent puller should fix it

 

First one of these cars I've seen with a cabin air filter.

 

I admire your enthusiasm and commitment towards your Comet ! I ' also ' own a 74 Comet and they're a unique vehicle worthy of your efforts !

I got bored and wanted to test out my dad’s paint sprayer, unfortunately, they’re about half as wide as they need to be.

 

I got in an accident today, right now it will turn over, but not start and I haven’t looked at it too much, but I’m pretty sure the fender is toast, I might could save some of the trim and slim chance of the hood (I hope)
