Hey guys I recently got a reproduction gas tank It’s a prototype non ca car Tank I had some questions Can I install it in my ca car Without the ca emissions thing up top? Can I delete it , remove the lines An that canaster to the right ? Behind the shock tower Will it be ok to Install it with the ca gas tube , I have a ca only deluxe gas cap That’s why I’m Asking
Bump Anyone have any tips on the ca emissions For the gas tank Should be ok to eliminate all of it But I still want to keep the ca gas cap. Does it matter if it’s non vented or vented ?
I fixed the title to your thread so hopefully more will see this and reply. Well, I don't know to what extent CA would inspect your car, but the Cali 70 only emissions tank was a mess in engineering design overkill. If your state inspection requires an evaporative system in place, just put in the vent in the top of the tank to the under hood charcoal canister like the later cars used. As for the cap, the tank will need to breathe. If you use the charcoal canister it will allow the intake of replacement air to the tank and either a vented or non vented original cap will be fine. If you do not run any emissions system for the tank, you will need to use a vented cap. Tell us more about the new tank - are they available? I did not see one listed on a ACP web site. How did you get one?
Here’s a look at the main difference between the 70 CA and the rest of the filler necks. The sealing mechanism is different, as is the neck itself. http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/1970-fuel-filler-neck-ca-vs-non-ca.94077/#post-961466 I disconnected my emissions stuff when my original stuff started to leak and I put in a non-CA tank and swapped the filler neck too. I’m running a vented cap now since it needs a way to breathe. That new tank looks very nice.
Eric, From what I understand, He is part of ACP's "test fit" program. He received the prototype tank to test fit and report back to ACP any variation in their reproduction tank vs. an original fuel tank. Once ACP receives word back from him they will either produce the tank "as is" or go back to the design phase to correct any problem found. Hopefully they will be available soon.
hmm Well this one is the very first prototype They want me to test fit it in the 70 Once I get it in I can report back to Acp I also am working with them on helping my Cali club members get idler arms An testing those parts But this is the first step in getting a Repop 70 gas tank I’m gonna pull the old tank out on sat I’ll take some more pics My 70 is smog exempt But I was overthinking it , if it didn’t vent something bad would Happen I’m still thinking if I pull the lines an charcoal canister I’ll have more room Plus I have to pound out the trans tunnel a little for the 4 speed toploader
Thank you I appreciate that post Looks like Once I drop It all in All I’m gonna need is a non ca gas cap An a different rubber seal
Little update I pulled the old tank And filler neck. Installed the new prototype tank from ACP, along with filler neck. I took some photos The fit is dead on , Only waiting on two things The rubber seal from the mustang Thank you for those who posted on a previous post. This forum rocks ! Tons of info at my fingertips ! Anyways the sending unit as well is on order So quick question will I need that one seal In addition to the long rubber seal? Also I’m test fitting this stuff. So the trunk will repainted to grey /white splatter paint . I most likely will have the trunk done in black carpet
Nope, you won’t need that Dorman brand fuel neck grommet you posted - that type of seal is only used on the CA version of this tank. All you need is the rubber hose you already ordered to connect the neck to the tank, a couple hose clamps, and you’re done.
Ford Freak, I might suggest to you sending ACP the Cali emission items for possible future reproduction. The valve from the top of the tank, the valve bolted to the underside behind valance and the rubber filler neck grommet. The 1970 California emission Mustang and Cougar used these same items as the Maverick.
Here is a good read regarding the 1970 emissions/parts http://anghelrestorations.com/uploads/3/5/1/2/35122002/smog_v1.1.pdf
When opening the pdf - windows defender blocked it as unsafe ……. and my setting are pretty loose …………
