Today I actually worked on my some..... I got the rear end all apart so I can change the gear set.....
I did get the finally get the new gear set up over the weekend..... The problem with polished gears is they are very hard to read the pattern on..... I think it's good now, but we shall see when it's up and running again..... Here's the difference in the new rem finished gear and the old one..... and of coarse everything reassembled.....
Mocked up the trans case and some heads yesterday..... Also put the intake on so I could test fit a coil pack bracket assembly I made for the project I am building at work.... It looks like I could use it with a couple small modifications..... I like this arrangement, it gets the coil clutter off the valve covers and is a little more retro look on the older cars(the setup I am trying on my car is the second setup similar to the I have done on projects at work)….. I also have all the stuff at the shop to start on a set of stainless long tube headers..... Here's what little progress there was yesterday.....
Today I removed the ECU and all the gauges..... I didn't want to do any welding on the car with the ecu hooked up, plus I am going to sell it and the current gauges..... After getting the a good bit of the interior removed, I did get a notch in the trans crossmember mount reinforcement in the chassis..... Then tacked a piece of pipe to the notch to locate the driver side header collector..... I need to make a small adjustment in the angle of the collector before I start building the header..... Some pic's of today's progress.....
I can appreciate that, I toss around the turbo idea but it's way over my head and I'm not sure I care to learn about it!
Whats the plans for instrumentation Frank? Racepak display? Why the change in power adders? I can't wait to see where this goes.
Must be something with Franks always changing their cars but I must say you take things to the extreme . But I am always impressed with your abilities and skill level, now if you could just keep from breaking things . LOL
It's not that the turbo thing is all that difficult, it is just making bracket racing difficult..... I was considering the Holley display, but I kind of still like the old school analog gauges..... Holley now make analog gauges the can bus off there ECU's, so no additional sensors are needed plus you are seeing the same thing the ECU see's..... Just making it more practical to bracket race and drive around, I am also going to be putting air on it soon..... I didn't take it apart last time because of breakage, just because????? Also if you use and abuse it, it will break!!!!!
how is the turbo harder to bracket race? difficult to get the right amount of boost without going to fast?
Heat is the problem..... The first couple rounds or so when there is plenty of cool down(trans/converter) there are no issues..... As rounds get closer together the trans/converter heat up more and more to the point is starts to flare the converter..... Then is starts leaving differently and et's start getting inconsistent.....
Didn't have much time to work on it last weekend..... I did get down to check the collector/pipe clearance to the ground, made a slight adjustment..... I also swapped out the good block/heads that were in it for my mock up block/heads since I finally got it out of the car at work( just don't want to take a chance on anything happening to the good one)….. Tomorrow I am going to get the pass side collector mocked up in position and get started on the header building.....
Can’t wait to see how the headers turn out, I’m sure they will be a work of art Frank! I wish I had your fab skills, I’m gonna have mine custom made as I also have the AJE front end for maximum exhaust clearance.
