Made a little progress over the weekend, got the first 2 tubes on the driver side tacked together and the first piece of the next 2 started..... This shit can be quite time consuming, specially when you haven't made any in a while..... The worst part is I took the first 2 tubes to work this week to tig weld then, and boy my tig welding needs some serious help..... Here's the tubes that were tacked together in place..... and here the piece of the next 2 just stuck in there.....
Building headers is an art so much trial and error, didnt cut enough cut too much angle is just a little off. I tried tig welding once and discovered my eye sight was not good enough to do it, perhaps a cheater lens in the helmet would have helped . I have always enjoyed the projects you take on and like that you share with us
Thanks….. I have tig welded a little in the past, but I think part of my problem is my eyesight is not as good as it was then..... I even struggle with the mig some days.....
My welding skills are rookie, but I did notice that the face shield blocked the bi-focal part of my glasses. If I try it again, I will get a pair of reading glasses to put over my regular glasses and hope the mask still closes.
Ha, I did that tonight taking apart my wife's laptop, 1.75 cheaters over my progressives. Looks silly but I could see those tiny screws!

Thanks, and I will continue to post updates..... Thanks….. I purchased all the components individually to get the combination of stuff I wanted..... I hear people complain about spending $1000-1200 for a nice set of 304 Stainless headers, I would be happy to get a set for that if anything would actually fit my car..... I've got almost $800 in components to build mine, plus who knows how many hours to build them.....
I hear you on the header situation. I did the 351 swap in mine in 1997. Ordered swap headers that were backordered for three weeks before I gave up on them and worked with a guy to modify an existing set. Bought three sets of headers and picked the one that was closest. That took him a couple weeks to get done. The Comet was my only wheels at that point, so I was driving a rental car for about 8 or 9 weeks while swapping the motor and all the header nonsense was going on. I figured I had $1200 in the headers by the time it was all said and done and I had sold off the two extra sets. I ended up with the ugliest set of headers I have ever seen ... lol. It is very interesting to see the new direction you are taking. I fully understand it, too. When I was doing a lot of bracket racing, the Comet would get a tenth quicker between qualifying and rounds just because the sun went down, and it is go-kart simple compared to what you are doing. Consistency makes it so much easier to deal with.
Got the second 2 tubes on the driver side made and tacked together..... After looking at all the tubes mocked up I decided to alter the 2nd tube I made last week because it was quite a bit shorter then all the others..... So I rearranged it..... Now all the tube lengths are within just under 9% which I don't think is very reasonable..... Some pic's.....
Got the header tubes welded up this week..... Today I got the driver side header tacked together and ready to weld up..... Then I tacked the v-band flange to the collector..... Also got the pass side collector positioned and the head flange on, ready to start on the pass side tubes..... Progress pic's.....
Thanks, they are 1.75" primary..... Should be a good size for the 364 ci motor that is going in the car now, probably a little big for the 323 ci spare motor..... If I do something bigger down the road I will build an appropriate size header at that time.....
Have you decided on the nitrous system? What brand and type are thinking about? I am installing a progressive, single stage nitrous outlet system. I know you have induction solutions down in the sunshine state.
