I am getting ready to install some 67/68 Cougar taillights in my 70 Mav. any suggestions on the best way to go about this task? Does anyone have the pattern for cutting the tail light panel to install the Cougar tail lights? Does anyone who has done a similar conversion have a diagram on how to do the wiring for the lights and the sequential turn signals. What aftermarket light bulb sockets is everyone using in the factory stock 1967/68 Cougar tail light housing when a swap is done?
I cant answer any of your questions but that will look really nice. I have seen some of the Comets with Bobcat taillights and I thought how they should have done this in production to set it apart from the Maverick.
I've seen a lot of mavs with Bobcat taillights (have them myself), don't think I've ever seen a comet with them.
Here is a very rough drawing on how I hooked up the sequential tail lights on my car. You will need 3 relays and a set of sequencers. The sequencers come with instructions also. Probably my error, I have only seen photos and its been a while so they may have been Mavericks I saw too. Still I did think since they were using Pinto lights in Mavericks it would have been logical to use Bobcat lights in Comets. I suppose since Bobcat didn't come along until '75 they probably figured Comet was on its way out soon anyway and wouldn't be worth the tooling changes.
They never used Pinto tail lights in Mavericks. Early Pintos had Maverick tail lights. The Maverick came out before the Pinto.
