I am getting ready to install some 67/68 Cougar taillights in my 70 Mav. any suggestions on the best way to go about this task? Does anyone have the pattern for cutting the tail light panel to install the Cougar tail lights? Does anyone who has done a similar conversion have a diagram on how to do the wiring for the lights and the sequential turn signals. What aftermarket light bulb sockets is everyone using in the factory stock 1967/68 Cougar tail light housing when a swap is done?
I cant answer any of your questions but that will look really nice. I have seen some of the Comets with Bobcat taillights and I thought how they should have done this in production to set it apart from the Maverick.
I've seen a lot of mavs with Bobcat taillights (have them myself), don't think I've ever seen a comet with them.
Here is a very rough drawing on how I hooked up the sequential tail lights on my car. You will need 3 relays and a set of sequencers. The sequencers come with instructions also. Some people (me included ) have changed the wiring size going to the relays to #12 due to the fact that factory wiring size is too small http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/how-to-install-a-tail-light-sequencer-using-relays.100580/ Sequencers http://webelectricproducts.com/ Relays http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-12V-BOSCH...US_Relays_Sensors&hash=item35bf63c05e&vxp=mtr
Probably my error, I have only seen photos and its been a while so they may have been Mavericks I saw too. Still I did think since they were using Pinto lights in Mavericks it would have been logical to use Bobcat lights in Comets. I suppose since Bobcat didn't come along until '75 they probably figured Comet was on its way out soon anyway and wouldn't be worth the tooling changes.
They never used Pinto tail lights in Mavericks. Early Pintos had Maverick tail lights. The Maverick came out before the Pinto.
ah ha, you are right, looked in my spotters guide and Pinto didn't come out till '71. Thanks for setting me straight.
You can purchase 1967-68 Cougar tail light bulb sockets. Of course they are designed to work with the Cougar tail light harness though. https://secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/67sock.html?attribs=76
Do you remember the part number you used for the sequencers? Or Is this the sequencers you used (ON SALE NOW! So, you like the Sequential Turn Signals on the 2010+ Mustang? Don't be left behind! Now you can have them on your 1994-2009 Mustang with these Plug-In harnesses. These harnesses include our new Smart-Sequence technology.)?
Now is the time to choose plasma LED tail light bulbs as an upgrade. Consider them before you order the sequential box.
Is this it? Because this is all I can find in the WebElectric Products that would even come close except for needing new sockets added for the Cougar housing.. Mustang Pre-wired Harnesses - Manufactured with OEM components For 2005-2009 Mustangs: Qty STS-1M5SS Sequential Harnesses, $119.95 For 1996-2004 Mustangs: Qty STS-1MSS Sequential Harnesses, $139.95 Industry standard sockets Our sockets conform to USCAR 15-2 "Specification for Automotive Light Bulb Sockets". See the two metal clips inside the lamp socket? They hold the lamp firmly in place. The sockets on the competitor's harnesses don't have them. And we use a real label to mark the sockets. Proper grommet The grommet is specifically designed for this application. It is fused onto the wires (05-09) to keep water out of your trunk and off the electronics. It is not a slip-fit piece like the ones used by other companies. Cable retainer Sounds simple, but other manufacturers don't include this small but important feature. The cable retainer holds the harness in place. This guarantees proper positioning of the harness, and keeps it from rattling/rubbing against the car body. OEM connector And of course, the original equipment connector is used for quick and accurate "Plug-N-Play" installation. No splicing or other harness modifications are required.
