It's been a long time away from this forum. My Maverick has been in the shop for 3 years getting painted. The shop moved and he was getting caught up and on top of that, he moved to a different location. I was also, looking for a place to move and he offered to store the car until I found a place. I got the car back last year and now finally putting it back together. I also have the seats getting reupholstered waiting on them. Now I have a problem I replaced the parking brake cable and I'm an inch or 2 short connecting the cables. My car is a 1975 Maverick 4 door. Not sure what I have done wrong. Can someone send a sketch of the layout of the cables? I can't find them in my books.
this is the underside of a members 2dr car. I used this photo to figure out my e-brake mess.....hope it helps. http://mmb.maverick.to/attachments/46-jpg.120157/
A 4-door also has a short little cable, about 10" long or so, that makes up the difference for the longer 4-door body to use the 2-door cables. Do you have that cable?
A 2-door would be the exact same set-up as a 4-door, the only difference would be that short cable I was talking about. 1975 would have the foot pedal...so that set-up is different than what has been posted.
Here is some more.....but it is hard to decipher exactly what is going on; but has diagrams of potential components within the system? I didnt know there was a foot pedal version......I am such a newb. http://www.1bad6t.com/Maverick/repair/images/untitled190.gif
That's what I have. The problem I have is in where its marked A. I think I might have the wrong cables going the the rear being to short. That's my luck.
lol....Truth be told, my system has way too much slack in it. It is together enough that pieces wont fall down and drag, but it really doesnt work like it should. Next time I get my car high enough to get under it without a struggle, I plan on taking a close look at it. It is tough to piece stuff together from what you can get your hands on especially when it is your first run at it. Would a second piece of the previously mentioned short cable make it happen?
Out of the 40 or 50 Mavericks I have owned....only (2) of them have been a 1975....so I am not as familiar with those.
I think I'll remove the cables going to the rear wheels and measure them for length. Either I have them reverse or they are the wrong ones. Either way it's going to be painful. That will come later I have other projects to do. Still waiting for my seats to get done.
I dunno if these measurements are same for '75. For '71 the Ford MPC lists RH cable as 62" & left as 76".
Just installed a new front parking brake cable on my 70 grabber. My problem is when I removed the old cable I wasn't paying attention and theres a small spring by the handle fell out that grabs the grooves. Can not figure out how that spring goes back on . Any info or pics would be appreciated.
