Finally got my rims and tires mounted after literally hours of research on this forum and others and on maiden drive the rears rubbed the fender .. I went with U.S. Steel Wheel Series 69 un painted Mad Max style 17x8s all 4 corners 245 45 17 and 225 on the fronts.. 4.5 inch BS was the consensus so that's what I went with. But looking at it I have waaay more room on the inside to work with.. Is there anything I can do or do I have to buy a whole different rim with say 5.5 BS to tuck the wheel in more .. or will rolling the fender most likely do the trick ? Also need to lower the front but first things first.. Any help is greatly appreciated..Thanks ! Pics below .
After reading your post in the other thread I would say the issue is with the rear axle. The consensus for wheels and tires was based on using a Maverick rear end, you used a late 60's Mustang axle which is wider. I would look for a Maverick rear, might be cheaper than different wheels and you could sell the Mustang unit.
Thanks for the reply.. Was told it was 1/4 " wider but I guess not ? Is swapping the rearend AGAIN my only other option with keeping the same wheels?
A quick search shows the Maverick/Comet being 56.5 inches vs the late 60's Mustang at 59.5. You may be able to roll the lip to get the clearance but it's hard to say without seeing it.
They measured them side by side and came up with different numbers but it's too late to change that.. Moving forward>> By that logic if each fender is rolled 1.5 inches I'm good >> is that even a possibility and/or do they all roll about the same ?? In the meantime I'll start looking for a v8 maverick rear end >> thanks again
I wouldn't roll fender lips... most that have done it regret it later, do it right the first time...JMO
It's possible they are close in dimensions, I just looked at what has been posted on the internet and we all know how skewed that can be!!
How about a picture looking up showing the tire in relation to the fender lip? Somethi g to show the amount of clearance you will need. Used my wifes car as an example since my car has no wheels on it at the moment.
There are a couple of pics in the beginning of this thread though not from your camera angle.. lemme see what I can wrangle up >>
