    Hello All,
I am very new to car restoration world, in fact this is my first restoration. I have 2 questions.

1 - Can someone please tell me if there is a website I can go and order exact fit header back Exhaust kit which I don't have to bend or weld, even universal will work for me of any kind?

I went to few local muffler shops and the cheapest I could find was $850. I know I do want dual exhaust but I don't care about how it sounds just need something cheap and easy to install.

2 -Can someone recommend what year and model I should use which will be very close to 1970 maverick 302?
I have found couple of cheap options for under $250 for other older cars but the sites I went don't have maverick listed so I am wondering if there is another make and model I can use which will have almost same exhaust kit.

Thanks in advance for any feedback or assistance.

i am currently putting a 302 in a 1970 mav. From looking around and reading on here, there seem to be two schools of thought. One Hooker 6901 long headers. And two, some shorty headers but I dont remember the brand. I plan on going with Hooker 6901. I know there is something about the power steering pump or box being in the way. Not clear on that yet.

do a search on here for 302 and headers.

AFAIK there is no "out of the box" system. Something like a early Falcon, even the '64/'65 should be close, or probably any earlier Ford vehicle with similar wheelbase. Stay away from Fox chassis as the headers won't fit Maverick of any year, possibly the actual exhaust system could be modified, I dunno.

Also note the Mav gas tank is offset to allow for mounting a round muffler at rear. Not a lot of extra space on driver side.

Thanks guys. I thought 64 - 70 mustang would be close to Maverick, but it looks like Falcon I should be looking into when chasing for exhaust system.

@Krazy Comet in your experience, would universal falcon kit would be something close enough?

I bought the early Mustang kit but haven't opened the box yet. It's the Summit kit 860111. Only thing I'm concerned with is the mufflers, wish they were center outlet. I knew going in there would be modifications needed but that shouldn't be much of an issue for me.

I know I mentioned this to you in the email, but your best bet is to continue to shop around and find a local muffler shop. Any "kit" will have to be modified so much that it will leave you nothing but frustration.

please do let me know how it goes so I can buy one myself and I know exactly what I need to prepared?

    thanks!

Wow that is pretty pricey. A friend had his 70 mustang done recently and the shop charged $500 for the whole exhaust. It was not from a kit. Also was that the car for sale in Tampa area? I almost bought that car awhile back lol.

Yes sir, 680111. Funny, I have been selling parts since 1987 and I still muck up the occasional part number! I bought the Hedman Elite shorties, # 88408, decided this time I would spend money on the better set. Every thing I have had in the past were long tubes that would drag with thin flanges that never sealed, it's time to change that! I'm still a long way from installation, I am just starting to accumulate more parts since I sold my motorcycle. The tailpipes are the one area I am not sure of fitment, the pipes from the header to the muffler are an easy fit as long as the collectors don't kick out to the side like the ones on my Pontiac did.

Mostly because I didn’t want to make the drive for it lol. I had talked to the guy on the phone and he had sent photos. I just didn’t have the time to drive down there and grab it.

I have those headers -- they do seal well and fit a lot closer to the underside of the car than the long tubes. I would have to slow to a crawl on most speed-humps and low driveways, not a problem now. The only fault I find -- they rub the exhaust cone just below collector on sharp left turns; other than that, no issues. Long tubes didn't rub on left turn. I installed them w/ engine in the car and only had to swing the idler arm away from frame, slid right in.
Hedmann long tubes may fit closer too the body than the ones I removed -- they had a Ford plate attached to them, don't know who was the mfg. I didn't use the collector cones that came w/ the headers 2 1/4 or 2 1/2" don't recall -- used 2" cuz I cud see there would be more of interference issue. Two inch, all I need for a street only - cruiser.
