I swapped a stroked 351 Windsor into my 72 maverick. Have about 2 inches of carburetor to hood space. Wanting a Grabber style hood with a cowl to clear a breather on my motor. Ive seen a few such hoods in pictures, but cant find any for sale. Any information is appreciated. Yes i know i can make one, but i was hoping someone else does.
Those hoods are in limited supply unless you build one. There was a past member that had some custom made and only did a few. Something went sideways on here for him and he no longer visits us so you won't be able to contact him. You may get lucky and find one for sale but I haven't seen any in a long time.
Thanks for the info. I figured someone had molded and reproduced them by now. My Brother has a 71 grabber, my dad has a 70 grabber clone and i have a 72 Sprint. We all like the hoods lol.
I wonder if the place that made them still has the mold. Hardest part there is fonding out who actually made them.
Wonder no more! You might try contacting these guys and see if they can make more. The name is in this post.
Have you road test your 351w stroker yet? I got a 4o8 stroker in my 70stang so i know first hand You gonna have a beast!!!!!!
No not yet. I just recently got it in the car. It Dynoed at 549hp and 509 tq at 10:5:1 compression. Put 9inch rear end with 4:10 gears. C4 with shift kit and transbrake. It should be peppy lol.
Only a slight understatement!!! That's more power than my GTO had by about 20 and it was a handful at 4000 pounds with 4.10 and a 3500 stall convertor.
Okay i gotta ask!!! What is your plan with your car? Street or dedicated race car? If you're a street car that 4.10 gear is gonna disappoint you. You'll be screaming at 60 mph. You'll be scary fast as crap when you're on it but when you're cruising at 60 mph everyone is passing you at 70. Check out an online gear ratio cal if you dont believe me. With the power and torque of your stroker. Same as mine the perfect gear would be 2.79 to 3.00 range with both wheel working. Real example: I took out my 3.89 and replaced with my 2.79 for drive from Altus AFB OK to Delaware a few years ago. Car was still a beast with 2.79. When i wanted to do some damage i just downshift and took off. Way more fun to drive. I never got to test but i always thought that car was faster with 2.79 verse 3.89. My reason for think is with the 3.89 i'm controlling wheelspin and going through gears faster. With the 2.79 and able to step deeper into pedal as well as hold gears a few rpm longer before shifting. If you're track you'll need slicks and cage. I ran 11.70 in 1/4. Track safety kept there eyes on me.
I ran the 4.10 with a 3500 stall as a driver for years. You are right, it screams on the highway but it didn't stop me from driving it to Seattle and Portland. Mileage sucked but man was it quick!
Its just a toy. Local cruiser. No trips or anything. May run track some. Those gears are in it mainly because they were already in the ford 9 inch 31spline posi setup i put in. Im currently looking deciding on hood and tire size. Im always on a budget but want to make it nice too.
Members on here have cars that sits really nice. I'm sure they'll share tire size. Decide what look you want. Pro street or pro tour. What size wheel do you have?
