Disclaimer! I've never used a spray gun prior. Only rattle cans and brush. Well I decided to step up my game and learn something new. Bought a cheap 15.00 h-frieght spray gun and a filter for my compressor. Got some primer, paint and other whatnuts. Prepped, tests and whammo! Here's my before and after.
I have painted houses for years, and one day I will have to try what you just did. I could live with a job that isnt perfect....and if it is horrible, there is always the do over a bit higher up the learning curve.
Stu I've done most everything except for paint a car. Just one of those things i gotta try/do. I was initially intimidated by all the mixing this/that so I ended up using the duplicolor primer and paint. None of which require mixing additive. Pretty much stir, strain and shoot. The choice of paint probally not the best but i accomplish what i wanted with engine bay. Most importantly i got a little hands on with spray gun. To add!!! After more reading and YouTubing i see the mixing ratio fomular is easy with the right measuring cup. So i'm already considering a better type of paint. Stay tune!!! Next task on list is repairing rusted section in floorboard.
I’m about to start tackling the same as soon as my 71 that I sold returns. Supposed to be getting it back this weekend. Looks good.
Here she is, yes my very first car. Yes i'm a hoarder. Bought it in 1987 while stationed at norton afb in san Bernardino CA. Drove it as my primary car for 10 years. That car and I been through a lot of crap. We survived girlfriends crashing it in longbeach CA 1989, Hurricane hugo ripping the garage apart in SC in same year after i'd just drove it there from CA. And she even survived my ex-wife ratty driving. Today shes sitting in garage with a bunch of crap on it. I know, I know!!! I should do better. I got the comet fever now, she understand.
I post this somewhere else. Gonna repost here. Before and after. Ratty picture is from craiglist ad in oct. After pic is repaired floorboard, fresh carpet with very good condition accord seats. Engine compartments cleaned and painted. 302 engine with 69 or 70 351w heads. C4 with fresh clutches and bands. Power washed and washed agained. Washed again and then again. Ended up scrubbing with sand paper.
70 fastback! It's a toss up for me between that or a 65/6 fastback as my favorite Mustang. I hung onto my "forever" car for twenty years before parting ways. Went into the three car garage of our new house, looked at all the parts (20 year accumulation from 4 or 5 parts cars) and the project ahead and decided to turn it loose. I bought it in 88 from the original owner, 1968 GTO. Fell in love with it in middle school and finally got it just before my 19th birthday. I really wanted to hot rod it but it was numbers matching and I felt it was the wrong car to butcher and that's where the Maverick came into my life. Nice work on the Comet resurrection, it looks like it cleaned up well.
