I completely took apart the PS on my 77 302 and sent the big 3 (pump, control valve, power cylinder) off to Randy to be rebuilt and painted. I’ve got them physically back in but it’s been so long since I took it all off that I forgot which hose goes where. Any general directions for which hoses go where between pump and control valve as well as between control valve and power cylinder?
I had the cylinder hoses reversed when I connected them back up on my '70 last month. Fortunately the car took a little cranking before it would fire and I could feel the wheel wanting to jump. If you are not absolutely positive you got them right is to pull the coil wire and crank a little after you get the fluid in. The wheel bump will be quite obvious after just a few seconds.
Hose hookup in pict is correct... Upper hose on cyl connects to outermost port on valve. Lower hose connects to lower port on valve, simple...
Anyone know how the pump to control valve hoses route? I snuck them by the engine mount and they rest on the oil pan and have a terribly not smooth movement to them as I turn the wheel. Not really sure how to route these hoses so one end can move with the valve and not rub a hole in itself or something else.
They will drag, AFIK no real fix possible, though there are usually a couple clamps that after fact are long gone. Original hoses included metal coil wrap to prevent wear to the rubber. Excepting for concours Mustang hoses, you'll not fine replacements with this feature. I pirated wrap for both my Cobra & Fairlane from used hoses. Yes I repaired that trans cooler line before engine install.
Thanks! That’s a beautiful picture. I got them routed. I’ll come up with some clamps that’ll work and then see what happens. I’m going to cover them in something for the rubbing and for heat against the oil pan.
Here's mine with engine installed. The retainer was yet to be installed on bracket.. Also there is supposedly another bracket on back side of lower control arm mount but there was no evidence of mine having one.
