Anyone deleted there Emergency brake cable from shoe? Mine is already hacked up in pieces and just dangling from both drum. No hills around here and not backing down a boat ramp.
I thought they were called parking brake... Not one time in 10,000 parking brake applies, will it be used for emergency.
Okay Krazy you gotta me!!! Duhhhh! "Parking brakes" Last time i used parking brake was in 1995 on a hilly street in SanFranciso. Noo way did I trust it.
Me too, here in Michigan older cars have frozen cables and I just remove all parts & plug the hole in the backing plate.
my brake pedal went to the floor coming home from a 600 mile trip. I drove about 60 miles using the e-brake to stop the rest of the way home..
It's a parking brake but can be use for emergency stopping. On two occasions I have used it when the master cylinder went bad, to get home. I prefer to have it functional on my cars...
That's been my mindset for a long time. I use it whenever I park my truck, made it a habit with my manual trans vehicles and never stopped. When I had disabled them in the past I was young and poor, easier to toss it than fix it.
I also prefer having my park/emergency operational. If you ever go to an NSRA event and go through the safety inspection -- the car won't pass w/o the brake working. I don't ever get out of the car w/ it running w/o the brake on -- don't feel comfortable.
The other thing to remember is that when you actuate the parking brake it also adjusts the rear brakes via the adjuster. So how would you compensate for that? Matt
The rear self adj same as front. Movement of shoes allows the brake adj cable to contract, catching the next notch on star wheel, thus tightening brake.
