Very, very nice. Is it just now coming out of non-operation or has it been on the road for a while?

Coming out of non-operation. I hope to plate it for the summer. I tried to get collector plates but had too much rust to pass. Here in BC, car insurance is in the public domain, provided by the provincial government. ICBC, the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia , provides insurance with the registration. Liability insurance comes with the licence plates and then you can buy fire, theft and collision insurance. If you want, you can buy additional insurance from private companies.

ICBC has a cheaper rate for collector cars but the car has to be rust free and pretty much pristine. I flunked my first attempt. I’m working on the rust so I can make a 2nd attempt and get this cheaper rate. The rate is lower because collectors lobbied their representatives in the government to lower the rates for cars only driven around to car shows, zooming around, but not to work.

You can get collector plates for vehicles over 25 years old or for vehicles that are discontinued and are of collector status and are not modified. Also there is another category for “modified “ vehicles which have to be 1974 or older and are modified, ie Hot Rods. This is a sliding scale, as next year it will be 1975 and older, basically 46 years old. As soon as I get those rust spots out ( even with bondo and a rattle can paint job), I’ll make another attempt. You photograph the car and submit the photos. There is a brief visual inspection at the local office to confirm the photos were not photo-shopped and then the photos are sent to the provincial office in Victoria BC. They mark the photos with a flow pen if they are unhappy with the car and send them back. I’m dealing with that right now. Thanks for your kind comment.

That seems to be a very sensible way to do it. The law requires liability insurance, but about 15 percent of Californians roll without it.
I one had a rusty Datsun B210 that was literally held together with wire, duct-tape and Bondo. We called it the Fred Flinstone car because of the holes in the floor. Your car doesn't look rusty from the pictures, so I imagine you're going to pass second time around.

I’m hoping to hit this car show. There is a section for unfinished cars.

Here is a angle from down low to show the rust challenges.

I pulled the aging battery and revealed the rusting battery tray and dirty fender area. I plan the clean them up and possibly do a POR 15 treatment on the battery tray. Here’s a shot

Depending on how thin the metal is, I would replace it w/ new piece.

That battery tray is solid compared to most.
