    At the peak of my model building I would buy a model on a Friday and have it together on a Monday, fingerprints in the paint etal. I got away from modeling for years after that and just now getting into it again. I'm working on making a model of my full size project. I built the black car while in the military a long time ago & the yellow one mimics my 1st Maverick's paint design.

    You realize this type of thing can eventually drive you insane? What you just described is far worse than working on a real car. That hobby at your level is not in my future!

    Those don't look bad at all Bruce. On your blue Maverick a little wet sanding with 4000 grit to start with followed by a wet sanding of 12000 grit would smooth every thing out and after that the smoothed over coat can be polished with Novus 2 plastic polish to bring 'er to a mirror shine. It's awesome that you still have these.

    LOL. Yes I do HR. What I do like about this hobby is that I'll never be able to afford to do some of the stuff that I do in the scale world. That being said, I don't have a lot of money but what I do have is a little time. Additionally I gave up drinking 7 years ago this June and modeling (as well as a wee bit of hot rodding in the 1:1 world) keeps me sane.

    P.S. If you think this is over the top, I'm watching a fella cut his own metal parts for a Dodge D100 pick up on another forum. That right there is a level that I"LL never go to. lol. Check THIS out...…

    Thanks, Joe. They don't look bad but not similar quality to yours! I'll give your paint tips a try. The model eventually, hopefully, will look like my full-scale Maverick. It is getting back-halved at a local shop after a couple of friends & I installed the Blueprint Engines 347 & a TKO-600 5-speed. Where do you get 1:25th scale parts like the shifter you have? I would like to find an inline dual quad intake manifold for a small block Ford model like my 1:1 scale Edelbrock F28 intake. And 1:25th scale American Racing 200s wheels in 6" & 14" x 15" sizes.

    That's one helluva car you've got there Bruce! Give me a picture of the intake manifold that you've got and I'll see what I can come up with. As far as wheels and tires are concerned.....
    I don't know if you'll be able to find these exact wheels but you can get close at Ted's Modeling Marketplace. That guy has ALOT of cool stuff. The rear wheels are a lot of times too wide but I get my machine shop to cut the width down a smidgen so I can use 'em on street cars.

    The rear street tires that you're looking for are in the AMT 66 Pro Street Nova kit. I think they come in the AMT 67 Pro Street Chevelle kit as well.

    That is some incredible detail work. I really like the dashboard. That shifter is over the top too. What do you use/how do you paint such fine silver detail lines? Do you make thicker paint so it doesnt run everywhere? I wont do it because I make a mess when I try. But I am about to build a new slot car chassis, which means a new body, and I want to win a concourse plaque. Last race I got second in the concourse, but there was room for improvement.

    Thanks Bruce. If you're talking about the trim around the windows, that's accomplished by using bare metal foil. If you're not familiar with it , it's adhesive backed foil that's applied over the window trim, or raised trim detail, and trimmed to leave a perfectly defined line on trim. As for the dash details, a silver lead pencil is the weapon of choice. Just lay it across the raised detail and apply light pressure to get a defined line on raised details.

    As for the dual quad intake ol' Pete's got that covered in his post about the 65/ 66 Mustang coupe. Thanks Pete!!

    Thanks for the heads up. The AMT '66 Mustang kit I have has a cross ram dual quad for it's small block so that's what's going in the Maverick. When I run across another small block & dual quad I'll swap it out.

    Original issue of that kit was a 3 in 1 and came with a dual quad intake . I know the trumpeter 65 falcon kit has one too but...The engine in those kits is more like 1/20th scale as opposed to 1/25th soo... out of proportion and not useable in your case. The cross ram is way cooler though...(y)
