Lifting front wheels upon launch

    I really like the Maverick/Comet photos where the car is lifting it’s front wheels when launching at the lights. What sort of quarter mile ET range would your car have to be capable of to have enough torque to lift the front wheels? I assume the car would have slicks on it. :)

    Weight distribution and Gear ratio will determine the Torque you will need to hang the wheels high and far. Canned answer is a mid 10's with some gear (4.88) and some traction should get it done.

    For a Maverick, lesseee, first off you need traction which means sticky tires and a chassis that doesn't flex. Subframe connectors at minimum. Traction bars, extremely stiff springs, and reforced 9" rear with at least hardened 31 spline axles(a 8" would explode on first launch). Chassis reinforcement at every point there is movement. Next custom driveshaft and yoke to accommodate solid 1330 U joints, 1350 prefered. A transmission that can handle 400hp and 5000 rpm launches. And of course you'll have to build a motor to create all the commotion necessary.

    Most of the exhibition wheel standers have drivetrain moved back and/or rear moved forward.

    I can get just enough to see daylight under the tires I didnt believe it at first until I was shown a picture, a convertor change would help. No way without slicks though no idea on horsepower but probably around 400 or a little less

    My car was doing the bunny hop, too on an 8" with a T-brake. The 8" held on pretty good until we upped the power some more. My profile pic was with the 8" and a mini spool with traction bars and E.T. Streets which would be considered a drag radial at about an 11.30 1/4 mile. Eventually the 8" did let go so now it has a 9" with a full spool but it's still a leaf spring car with traction bars. All of the other suspension is stock with no chassis re-enforcement and a bone stock driveshaft (shhh). Quarter mile time and launch are basically the same though.

    I haven’t tried to launch it on the street even on slicks. I’m pretty sure it would just spin. I’m pretty sure most cars would just spin without some sort of traction compound on the street.
