I purchased a 75 Comet 3 years ago and finally drug it home today, washed the raccoon crap off it and put it in the garage. The plan is a GT clone with plenty of upgrades, parts I’ve collected in the past few years…. 94 Mustang GT 5.0 & T5, engine will receive a carburetor & in tank electric fuel pump, trans will get a fox body input because they use a smaller bellhousing. 2000 Explorer 4:10 limited slip rear axle with disc brakes will be narrowed to 56-1/2”. 2001 Mustang bucket seats ( drivers side is power) rear seat will get recovered to match. . Also have factory hood scoop, GT grill, Grabber rear spoiler, NOS rechromed front bumper, NOS front stone shield and all associated small bumper parts. 15x7 & 15x8 Torq Thrust wheels. New Hooker headers, a pair of glass packs, Unisteer rack & a pile of other parts. Now it’s time for the hard work to begin. The progress may be slow at times but I will ad to this post as I muddle through the build.
Sounds like a great plan. The Fox bell housing will also give you better placement of the clutch fork, the later cars had it rolled down towards the ground.
This is probably a crazy place to start but I couldn’t help but work on a couple of the cool pieces tonight. Stripped the ugly off & prepped the cracks in the scoop for SMC filler.
This is where I'm at. My windshield was insanely cracked and patched by another owner, so I'll have to source some glass. Good luck!
Body looks straight and I like torq thrust wheels; we went with the grey centers on our '74 Maverick build. My Comet is a '77; with the small bumper conversion, GT hood scoop, vinyl hood stripe, and 17" Centerline wheels. Good luck with the project!
Problem is with these projects is, don't get discouraged. I have to stop working on one area and switch to another for awhile or I can get bored/discouraged myself. Especially when they become a "problem child", have the T-shirts to prove it. Old wiring is your worst enemy IMO. Body work can be welded and patched. Wiring Gremlins are everywhere and move on you. Fortunately, the Comets/Mavs had some of the simplest wiring to work on. Try a 71 T-Bird with power everything if you don't thing so. The engine will need a front sump, and put a windage tray in it while changing the pan. Look to the 94 Stang donor on how and any parts you can use for the Comet. Junkyard research is always helpful. I just did a Grabber rear spoiler on my 72 Comet GT. Well worth it.
