that looks really good, heres a link to a shock tower notching kit for rrs, http://www.rrs-online.com/shocktowerproducts.php they make a lot of neat stuff for our cars too
Just asking arent the headers right inline with the 2 bolts at the bottom of the tower. Good work by the way...
Yes they are. This mod is just so that once you drop in the 408w you have room to get your hands in there to install things like header bolts, spark plugs and wires. I sure wish I did this mod a few years ago before I painted my car. I will say to anyone who is contimplating this mod, do it now and don't wait until after you paint the car. I will get some pics for when I have the shock towers repainted and the rest of the oil and grease removed.
sean c nice job on the shock towers. Did the shock pieces you welded in come in a kit? If so where can i buy one of these kits?
Unfortunatley, the pieces did not come in a kit. I had to make them. However don't be deterred by that. The pieces where quite easy to make. Once you have the towers cut out, take a piece of plate steel and just trace the tower onto the sheet. Do the big piece first and fit it. Then do the little piece. I used a torch to make the first cuts which where quite close. Then just use a grinder to touch them up and trim where required. Once you start you will be surprized at how well it goes. Also just so you know I never did any fancy bracing or jacking up the car on blocks, or whatever. I measure several time during the surgery and the towers never sagged a bit. NONE> NADDA. So don't listen to the horror stories. NOT true.
thanks for the info. I like people who own Mavericks because they are willing to help out a fellow maverick owner on there projects. This site rocks!!!! Thanks everyone for all the help
This is just a rhetorical question, I know the answer is yet to be discovered... But if you do the Arning Drop, wouldn't you be able to shave yet another inch lower? Something to ponder... I bring it up because the drop makes for a better suspension and when you add that inch with the added deck of a W engine, the header tubes might just be up in the shave with this scenario.
Hey Everyone, brand new to the fourum but I've looked at it alot the last few years, I'm in the process of shaving shock tower s, and was wondering if enough people out there could use the template that I'm using. If nuff are interested I can make a few sets at work and put them out there for sale. Im going to post m
