I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Nolan. I've been tinkering with stuff since I was a teenager, I'm 59 now. I recently bought a 72 Maverick from a friend of mine who I served with, it has a 302 with a c4 behind it. Before he had it the PO drag raced it so I'm told. It's got a low geared rear differential with a posi or a spool as the rear tires will chirp when turning around or making a sharp turn at a stop sign. This is the first Maverick I've ever owned or worked on. I'm looking forward to learning all about these cars.
from Wisconsin! Looks like a great project to start with. Many desirable things have been done to the car already. Should be a fun project. JMHO - get the spool out of there if it has one and go with the real traction-lok unit. I just do not like spools for street use.
Thank you sir, I really don't like the rear being locked up as well as soon as I get a few other things done it'll come out. I apologize for being so late to reply, that goes for all of you that have responded. I live in Louisiana in area with very poor reception.
Yes sir my buddy had offered the car to me not long before checking out this forum back then and had to back out on his offer, then later offered it to me again and I grabbed it. I knew a guy when I was in high school who owned a light blue grabber with a blower, I really liked that car he eventually straightened out a curve and totaled it. It was bad fast.
Hello from Nebraska, nice car ! Makings of a good project. Lots of good info on this fourm ! Putting 289 in ours now, thought I'd shave shock towers while motor was out...
Looks like its pretty solid, nice job on the shock towers. Did you make the pieces to weld in? That looks like a good way to make some room. I've installed a shifter from a 67 Cougar and some traction bars, along with export brace and belly bar I built. Hopefully I'll get the body welded up and paint it when it warms up. I have a 93 Ford E-150 van with a 302 and what I believe to be a AOD transmission. Can anyone tell me if that van came with a roller 302.
