I found out that the rear end of my Mustang is a 74 Maverick rear end, tag= WDW-U1 3JA 3.00 8 531A Markings on the drums: WF.9.D4DA-1126AA Drums need to be restored, there is also an oil leak on the pinion shaft. As I live in Europe, Maverick parts are very hard to come by, everything needs to be ordered. Mustang parts are easy to find and ship. Is there a list with part numbers available so its 100% sure I'm ordering the right parts? Or is there a mustang year compatible with this rear end and brakes?
All Ford 8" rear center sections are the same as far as swapping parts around. So that pinion seal will be easy enough to find in Europe. The axles and housing width, and possibly the bearing was the only different thing between early Mustang 8" and the 74 Mavericks 8". You can put on Mustang drum brakes as long as they are for the SMALL bearing. You just need to make sure you have the correct matching size drum, shoe and backing plate. And then if they will fit the small bearing pattern. See SMALL FORD below
Wanted to add - I just pulled up the rear bearing and the 74 used the same small bearing as the 67-83 Mustang that had the small bearing. So I would focus in on the small block 67-68 to find something that matches.
Thank you very much for the answer. According to the NPD catalog, a brake shoe for a 67-68 Mustang is 10x 1 3/4", theses wil fit the 1974 Maverick rear brakes?
Look for your parts at Rockauto, can cross various years and models. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...+l6,1132209,brake+&+wheel+hub,brake+shoe,1688
