Looks like I remember the new '66 police 428. BUT that was on a dreary Feb day. As seen in pictures, different lighting gives variance to the shade. Am I going to use SP 138? Nope I'm perfectly happy with DE 1606.
I painted my engine dark Ford blue simply because I like it. I say paint your engines whatever color you like...
Here is a source for the SP 153 mentioned in the Motortrend screenshot in posting # 1. Like it was mentioned, the cap often doesn’t match the actual paint, and this is a case where that’s true. The actual paint shown in the screen shot is darker than the cap.
I touched up the lid of the air breather with the Plasti Kote 224 and this is what I got. Not close enough for a touch up. I was trying to preserve the original decal on the lid. I may just repaint the whole air breather. Here are some shots. The first photo is the unrestored lid. The last photo shows where I touched up the entire outer diameter, covering the bare metal where I had cleaned up the rust around the outside edge of the lid. I kept one section of unrusted edge in the original color to show the difference. The new paint on the edge is on the right. Close but not perfect.
Here’s how it looks back on the air breather. If you squint your eyes it looks good enough for now. Now I’m noticing the other scrapes and rust spots. It’s certainly better than before. Here are the before and after pics. Enjoy.
Here are the Duplicolor brand Ford colors that are available in Canada. Labeling requirements in the French language limits the products we can get here. Here’s is a chart. We can get 1601, 1606 and 1621.
Idunno. It looks slightly darker like the DE1609 Chevy inline 6 blue that I used to paint the 350 in my Firebird. The GM "Corporate Blue" ('77-'82) was lighter...
