I was surprised, Comet dun goud, not been out of garage in over a year.

I usually drive Cobra on these things but it has a brake issue. Repl booster & MC, pedal now low, I knew the Fairlane could never keep up with this crowd. The Shelby on far end has a Hi-Po 289, white Mustang 390 with five speed, '64 Comet another 5 speed & equivalent of Hi-Po 302, Convertible a strong Cleveland.

Nothing today, but I had a welder install patch panels on my rear quarters and fill the holes from the chrome trim yesterday.

*taps microphone* This thing still on? Okay good. Quick update. Put on new head, bolted everything together, new valve covers, plug wires, plugs, dipstick tube. Working on little things. Goals is to get the motor running before the end of the year. Having a baby takes a lot of your time, eh?

Well, I never thought my 73 would be a Trailer Queen but it looks like my heater core may have let go while accelerating down the highway. A sudden flash of hot coolant came out from underneath the glovebox. I’ll tear into it this weekend. For now I’ll bypass the heater core once I’m sure that’s it, then order and install a new one.

I had the same thing happen a couple years ago-was really into it going out of town and at about 4500 rpm felt a bath of very hot liquid across my legs accompanied by steam-BIG surprise!

Worked on the tail light housings and the steering column. Making the move to modern bulb holders and shaving the column shift parts. I used JB Weld Steel Stick to fill the holes and pretty up the welds. Next up is smoothing and painting. 20220724_132046.jpg 20220724_132051.jpg 20220724_134751.jpg 20220724_133627.jpg

I pulled out the glove compartment box and lower dash component to find the source of my coolant leak. The hose connecting to the top of the heater core had popped off. This is the horizontal tube at the top of the core. The hose comes through the firewall and heads towards the passenger side to connect with the tube. Here is a shot of the tube and also a shot of the end of the hose coming through the firewall ( after it straightened out on its own ). In the first shot you can see my home made repair of the cable clamp using epoxy.

Looks like the hose clamp may have been partially over top the expanded end of the tube, instead of to the right of the expanded portion. This allowed the hose to pop off the tube. I cut an inch of hose off, pushed it back on and made sure the clamp was located past the expanded area before tightening it. Also its Good N Tight. Took it on the highway and it checked out fine.

I installed a 24F battery and put the Mav in a lineup of vehicles from the Rockin’ in the Rockies car club. We all cruised down to Dairy Queen and took up 30 parking spots. The temp was in the 90’s. Luckily no one overheated. Stopped at a country gas station on the way home and met up with one of the Camaros from the group. 45452C14-8DB1-461D-AEEC-B6F1CECD66CF.jpeg C2A7CD7B-A907-45AE-A811-55DA97FF2DB2.jpeg 6A2FF788-3BE3-429B-BB27-69EA5C48FBCD.jpeg

203D3A48-2FC7-4A19-80D1-134C6EF1ED68.jpeg Changed the oil and filter today. I purchased a Ford Motorcraft FL-1A, white in color with a Motorcraft decal covering about 1/3 of the circumference. Wouldn’t you know it, when I tightened it ( hand tight), the decal can’t be seen from above. I’m using “conventional” Castrol GTX 10w40. This car never did ever get synthetic oil. Just over 100,000 miles. One thing, I’m going to pick up a new gasket for the plug as the old plastic one is distorted.
