What did you do to your Maverick or Comet today

Drained the oil, changed out the oil plug seal. The blue Dorman plastic washer with the concentric ribs worked fine. No more drips.

 

Installed the 5/16 transmission line compression fittings with the 3/8”OD hose fitting. Went well and no leaks.

 

set my front end and the tie rods were bottomed out on the threads. I'll pull them tomorrow and cut off about 3/8" on each side and install longer tie rod ends...

 

Did a little rust repair on the driver side door. When the factory sprayed the coating on the inside of the door, some ran down and nearly plugged the front drain hole. Just a little dirt and that kept water in the door. CHECK YOUR DRIAN HOLES! Even an Arizona car can rust if you leave water in it.

 

I also found that true with the hood. the trim for the front lip covers the drain holes. I redrilled the weep holes in the trim.

I primed and put the first coat of paint on a rust repair under the hood on the driver’s side fender and two spots inside the doors. It’s cosmetic only and I know there is rust lurking on the frame beneath the surface of the fender. Two other spots were on the inside of the doors, where I ground out the the rust, hit it with it with rust bullet and rebuilt the area with Bondo fiber and regular Bondo. Here is a shot of the primed rust repair under the hood, on the fender. My taping is sloppy but got the job done. Enjoy.

 

went back to the rack project only to find out the longer tie rod ends are too long. back to cutting off the 3/8" and use the shorter rod ends.

 

Built a cheap roll over jig with removable wheels. Very easy for two people to roll car on it's side. ( Ya I know what you guy's are thinking. No worries it is very strong and stable.)
It made cleaning and painting the under side enjoyable.

 

I did something similar on mine and it was a huge help. Without it my underside would still be 50 years of nastiness!

 

Getting close to having one of my taillight housings ready to paint. Let the primer cure, wet sand, prime again and paint.

 

Took in the Wednesday night Show N Shine then cruised to the Dairy Queen.

 

I took an old set of voltmeter cables and since they fit my new dwell/tach, I cut the ends off and converted them to clamps. Much more handy.

 

I needed to test if my new custom radiator kept the 347 cool. A nice drive all the way around Lake Tahoe was the solution. No overheating even with the AC on. Latest EFI tune worked great. 15.4 MPG even with several miles of driving 70-80 MPH. Just need a little tweak to the idle when the AC is on.

new champion radiator came, all ready to put in and a solid 1.5" to tall....ok. button up the underside then...and I notice this.. always something ! Lol
