What did you do to your Maverick or Comet today

Saying my wiring was a rats nest would be an insult to rats....

Last few weeks have been very hectic on my car, so not a "what did you do today", but where it stands today:

Stripped most of the car and started the dent repairs. (glass, weather strip, and any stuff that was bolted to the car is now off cluttering up my shop, I feel like a hoarder - can barely walk through)
Pulled the interior including the dash to clean up the mass of wires (Both original and my ECM wiring)
Started ordering replacement stuff (weather stripping, clips, emblems, etc that I'll need)
Received the new gauges for the car (New Vintage ~ Performance Series 2 Gauge Kit ~ 3-1 Black 4-3/8" - 01257-01)

Dreaming of a paint job that will probably have to wait 'till spring when the weather get nice so I can put it all back together.

 

I like that car, but definitely rewire the car first.

 

I came back from vacation last month and could not get her to run properly. She would fire up and immediately die. If I gave her some throttle, I could keep her running but would immediately die if I let off the gas. Sounded horrible. I had no idea as to why she ran fine before I left and then run this bad with no apparent cause.

I posted the issue to my tuning forum and the moderator suggested that the coin battery on my tuning chip died.

Well, that was fun. My computer is in a real fun place to get to. Ford didn't give the Maverick any extra room. To install the computer, we cut into the A pilar/front fender area just behind the firewall. We then made a box that sits in the space between the fender. (see build) The computer and the fan controller just barely fit in there with half of the access blocked by the AC condenser box. Thankfully, I barely had enough room to partially open the door so that I could remove the side panels to access it. Then I got to contort myself to reach up, pull it all out, change the battery and jam it all back in there.

Uploaded the tune and she fired up on the first try.

Now, I can move her out of the garage and get better access to put it all back together the way it was.

Putting some new four piston Discs on the Maverick .. I'll have the 2 piston setup if anyone out there is interested. Only have 14000 miles on the 2 piston setup . Lemmeno

That's a fine looking tail! I like that so many Camaros have those tail lights that were made to fit a Maverick.

 

Miguel Arzola, what back up lights are you using ?

 

Those look like ones from early 65/66 Mustang.........

They are for a 1969 Camaro RS

 

Stallion is in its winter bag, and today I layed an old bedspread over the bag as I painted some interior panels on another car. That’s what I did to my Maverick today

 

In prep for recovering my LDO seats, was repairing the cables that release them to tip forward. (This is an easy fix if anyone is interested) Decided to take a swing at installing some decent '98 explorer high back cloth seats that I had from a donor vehicle. Got the seat tracks mounted and test fitted to see what risers I needed. (good threads on here about that) Got them set up and installed. Had to move the floor holes out 1/2" as the seats were 14" instead of 13". They look good, fit me very well and will save me a bunch on the upholstery. Interesting about these seats as Ford added 4 holes on the rear of the seat base so they align with many tracks. Did have to re-drill two holes in the LDO tracks to line up, but was a pretty easy swap.

 

Today I finish the steering column for the borgeson gear box and Installed
