I have read pages and pages of threads discussing headers for our cars. My car does not have power steering but does have a column shifter. Most of the threads I have read has been more revolved around the pitman arm, power steering, etc. There has not been alot of discussion specifically on the column shifter. Is there any headers that will or has worked for others for my application? My engine will be a 347 with AFR 185 58cc heads. I did read that there have been issues with aftermarket heads. I apologize in advance for another header thread but I did google, search, and read first but still have not been able to answer the question for my specific application.
I have a 347 with aftermarket heads, power steering, and a factory floor shift automatic.. I have Doug Thorley shorties They will work with a column shift as well. I did have to modify the area around the spark plugs on driver's side. In doing this modification, it ruined the factory applied coating and I had to have them stripped and Jet-Hot coated. Hedman shorties will also work. I did modify the collector to point in a better direction to exit away from the firewall and to point more towards the exhaust pipe. Here is a link to more info My Doug Thorley header install: http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/doug-thorley-headers-installed.32902/
Hedman 88400 on mine, 302 with column shifter and manual steering. They had to hit one of the tubes with a hammer a bit to resolve some steering clearamce issues.
Do you have power steering or manual? I guess if it was the pitman arm then it doesnt matter if its manual or power.
My apologies. I'm not sure how I missed that. I put a set on order last night. Anyone have any ideas if powder coating headers would be any benefit?
No problem, been in the same spot as you; this is a very helpful group and you will get to where you need to be.
