Got a '75 Maverick. Gas tank is shot. Ok, so I have been searching for a new tank, but everywhere I look, I only find tanks through '74 and then '76 up. A representative from a parts house said it's because '75 had their own gas tanks. Is this true? A guy on Facebook said that it is not true, and 1975-77 were the same. I need a new gas tank. I just want to buy the right one! Thanks!
Wow! That's a good question! I have to say I do not know! I can say that the car has a factory 302, so would that mean that Ford most likely put a 19 gallon?? Or, would it have absolutely no bearing on it whatsoever? Thanks for your input! Mike
spectra premium F-30 tank...19 gal. you can get them through just about any auto parts place. I would also suggest getting a new vapor valve and seal. Lube( or get new ) the bolts good before removing the nuts to save the strap bolts . These tanks will fit 71-74, just need longer strap bolts.
The guy on Facebook doesn't know what he's talking about Ford changed size of tank in '75, apparently parts houses don't want to deal with the difference.
I don't recall the specifics, but I think EVAP rules were changed in 1978. Something about going from strictly passive systems to a stricter standard. https://nepis.epa.gov/Exe/ZyNET.exe...ackDesc=Results page&MaximumPages=1&ZyEntry=1
I am the guy from Facebook. As I told him on Facebook....the guy at the parts store doesn't know what he is talking about..,....get the 1974-1977 reproduction tank.
I had a lady at Auto Zone ask me...what color was the car? as soon as she said that she said" what damn difference does that make"...LOL
Thanks for the input. The specs are important because my car has dual exhaust and the tank the parts house is trying to sell me is wider to the left of the hole where the neck filler attaches. I'm thinking this is not going to fit. Then, the leaf springs are right there. I just don't know where to find the RIGHT tank??
