Looking to replace my reverse bulbs, the one I removed seems to have #1142 not sure cuz numbers hard to read. Can anyone confirm this number?
Hey Everett, how ya been? Shop manual calls for dual contact, 1076, 32CP. Except for brightness, the 1142 is same rated at 21 CP.
Thanks for the info Tom. I been doing good, haven’t been able to get car out much as I am full time caregiver for the wife. I’m glad I made the road trips over the past 15 years I’ve owned the car, as that is not an option today. I’m considering possibly selling next year, although not something I am looking forward too, I’ll see how things go in the near future. Good hearing from you.
Mercury being upscale, used a dual contact socket. Sorta like Lincoln used same power mirror adj switch as T-bird, only difference is gender of connector. Of course, has different part number and cost 3x the Ford part. I used '88 T-Bird sockets to convert mine to wedge base bulbs. Requires trimming locating tabs on sockets.
Because the Comet tail light housing is molded plastic and socket housing is nylon, it is not grounded to metal panel, thus requires the dual contact base on bulb, #1076 David
Hi David! good to hear from you, hope all is well and thanks as always for your input! Been a minute since I've seen you here.
Dayum, I wanted to keep everyone guessing Mercury could just as easily used a single contact socket with a with a ground wire. That's what Ford did on the Fairlanes I have.
