The mav is gone but i'm still here!
My story begins in 1974 when my maverick rolled out the ford kansas city factory. Then it jumps some year to about the 1980's when a previous owner swapped the 302 to a rebuilt 289:)hmmm: not sure if its a hi-po cuz i cant find the engine id on it:hmmm: ). Then the owner got into some troubles with the law and needed bail money so his brother sold the car to my uncle then he sold it to my dad the about 9 years letter he gave it to me:)angry: during that time someone had broke in destroyed the trunk and stole the water pump pully and the radiator also stole the ignition cylinder:mad: ) but the i started to work on it with my uncle who has a 66 falcon and now the engine runs well:yup: i just need some rims/tires an some paint and a fuel tank but any ways in just a couple of weeks it'll be ready for the road.i'm now planing to buy an edlebrock 600 carburator and a new air cleaner.(y)

The easy way to tell a hipo 289 is to look at the harmonic balancer. If it is about an inch wide it is a standard 289 if it is about 2 1/2 inches thick it is a hipo.

Does'nt the Hi-po also have a small counter-weight right behind the balancer?
