Leaking Cowl vent cover

Just got home from Shades of the past cruise in in Fayette , Al . Noticed this neat clear cover on a 66 Mustang, this is not homemade but could easily be duplicated. Had a label on it which read Cowl Cover, not sure if you can read it in the pic or not. Had three thumbscrews which screwed in between the slots to hold it down. Not a cure but a simple way to keep a cowl from leaking untill you could get it fixed. Don't know where they found it, never did catch up with the owner, but it was definately store bought....

 

yeah i seen that before too.. can't remember if it was at a car show or on some fourms board.

 

Just took a look at my Mustangs Unlimited catalog and they carry the cowl covers. The ones held on with clips are $29.95 and the others are magnetic and sell for $19.95. I'm sure these are a common item that all Mustang parts suppliers carry.

 

Problem is it still wont keep water out of the cowl. Most of the water that runs down your windshield ends up in the cowl too.

 

The cowl cover is designed to keep out leaves and trash is all. Just like Mavholic stated, it doesnt keep out water

my comet is leaking water trough the front vent i was told that if there is leaves in there then the water won't drain. it has already rusted out my floor and i want it too stop ruined th carpet too and a little bit of mold is forming. i don't know how i can fix it. please helpppp.

 

your gonna need to get the dash out and patch up all the rust. but i guess you could get away with covering the vent and just patching the floor.

 

do a search on the archives. there are posts there that tell you what you have to do to fix it.

Unfortunately there is no easy fix. The only correct way is shown in this thread I did a few weeks ago. If you dont have the equipment and ambition to learn, it will be a costly repair.

I have never personally seen one of these vent covers, so I am just going by what is typed here. I am guessing that this cowl vent cover does not keep water from getting in the car because it can go underneath the cover. Wonder if you could rough up the paint and cowl cover, and use some silicone gasket maker to seal it up, then paint cover to match the car. Kind of a ghetto rigged fix, but I can understand where he is comeing from just wanting to prevent any more water from getting into the car until it can be properly fixed.

as Dennis stated...the windshield has ...weep holes...and the wiper arms have an inlet for water...

yeah, but, at least you can use less coffee cans on the floor.

 

mine is doing the same thing i think im just going to weld the vents closed i dont have ac or heater the blower is shot. cheeper yes more user frindly i dont know about that
