I cleared my PM's this morning ... I did reply to your email ... not sure what happened to it. The 2 chrome trim pieces that go on the 1/4 panel are the only 2 additional items needed to install a vinyl top ... Dan
Yeah, I just found that out when removing the vinyl top from my Mustang. It's just 2 pieces. They go from the quarter windows to the rear window.
On cars that has the full vinyl top...there was also a factory piece installed at the bottom of the A-Pillar. It was pop rivited on and painted the same color as the car (not the same color as the top like I told Dan earlier). Here is a picture of what one looks like installed. It is on there to hold that corner of the vinyl top on.
Well it looks nice. Im not a real big fan of vinyl tops although, I need to put one on my comet, To cover the slight waves in the top. Im not good enough to get them waves out, So i figured ill put vinyl over em. My question to you is where can i get everthing i need,Trim pieces as well.. Thanks in advance: skip st john
Trim pieces I got NOS ... put a wanted post in the parts forum to find a used set ... I have the link for the company that made the vinyl top at work ... I'll post it for you tomorrow ... I also bought the spray adhesive from them .. As long as your roof isn't too bad the vinyl should cover any slight imperfections. Obviously any major dents or dips are gonna show in the vinyl ..
Thanks, na, the waves are not that bad, In fact you cant really see them now as the car is in black primer. I just know when i paint it they will look horrible.
can you take that dent out with the vinyl roof in place... i have done that before... so i feel your anger... car is looking real good...
I ordered the vinyl top from here ... http://www.atrim.com/Page69.html I ordered a 100" Double Seam with a 42" Deck (distance between seams) .. this was long enough to extend all the way down the A pillars and drop behind the fenders ... The correct grain is Levant .... they have several colors to choose from ... they also sell the adhesive ... you will need 2 cans ... Total for everything will be less than $100 ....
damn.. thats cheaper than i thought... i wonder if you could do a step by step for prep and all that?? maybe?? it looks awesome
Instead of re-invent the horse ... go to Barnes & Noble and find the Camaro Restoration Book. I read and used the procedures in the chapter on Vinyl Top Installation. The Mustang Restoration book was no where's near as informative as the Camaro book ... The only tricky part is making a template for the trim holes if you car does not have them. You have to make a template because it's hard to figure out the exact location of the holes just by holding it up against the car ....
