if i remember correctly, the cyl head on that car was different. he carved up a set of boss 302 heads (maybe more), & welded the selected pieces into a 1 piece head for the 6 cyl. car was fast.

Color me stoopit cause I never knew they made a hood scoop for the Maverick - much less a COWL hood scoop!

Thanks for posting the picture. I remember watching that car race, but all I have is a black & white photo. After running that car for a couple years, he ran a similar engine in a white "pro-stock" Pinto. I believe he was a Ford engineer or something.

    John,

I watched this car race every weekend as a kid...the guy that drove it was HUGE (I'll bet he was over 400 lbs) !! They had the seat moved way back and he would just dump the clutch on the car, and when he did, the thing yanked the front wheels head high! It ran 7's in the 1/8th, but it's been so long ago that I can't remember exactly where it ran.

Man, I just had some serious flashbacks.... this car is one of the reasons that my Dad began messing around with Mavericks, and as a result, the reason that I mess around with them. I've been hitting the WH site a little lately and checking out some of the old photos, and just thinking back. Man, I've spent a lot of time at that track over the years!

    Thanks for the time travel,

    Later,

    John,

The white maverick pic was taken at Chandler Raceway Park, which is just across the Ohio River in Indiana. It is almost the exact same distance from my house to either WH or Chandler (about 30 miles). I remember seeing that car run, but I don't remember any particulars about it. I sure enjoy going to the site and looking at all of those old pics.

    Thanks again,
