Since this has been brought up in several threads ... here is the list of factory stripe colors according to the Ford Parts manual. Not sure if all colors are included since I found remnants of a BLACK WITH RED BORDER stripe on the 1972 Grabber I had ... perhaps there were some non-Ford replacement stripes available to body shops back in the 70's ... not sure. Keep in mind these are ALL the colors listed in the parts manual so these would have been the only colors that would have been able to be ordered by the parts counter back in the 70's. 1970: BLACK WHITE 1971: ORANGE WITH BLACK CENTER WHITE WITH SILVER CENTER YELLOW WITH BLACK CENTER 1972 BLACK WITH BLACK BORDER GOLD WITH WHITE BORDER LIME WITH LIME BORDER ORANGE WITH ORANGE BORDER I can say that for the 1972 colors ... I have never seen an original car that didn't have one of these color stripes on it so I think the black and red stripes were aftermarket ...
Yeah .. I know ... but apparantly Ford called it LIME/LIME to keep it simple .. that is how it is listed in the parts manual. All of the cars with the lime stripe had the stripe and border two different shades ...
Here is another. It is actually a yellow main stripe with an orange accent stripe. It is like the one Dan posted above. This one had the word GRABBER in orange vinyl and it was inset inside a factory cut-out of the yellow side stripe on the front fender.
Here is another Gold with white border. This is an MCCI member from PA. He bought this car brand new. All original.
That combo definitely isn't in the parts book .... Did you take that picture Craig? It almost looks like a painted stripe with no border and a Jim Osborne decal on the Fender stripe .... the orange outer isn't showing up very well on my monitor ... Here is the Osborne decal printed on clear so you can lay it over any stripe ... it's available in several colors ...
Check out this 71... Looks like black with white border ... or is it faded yellow or possibly orange?
I took the picture Dan. It was factory. It was a die cut GRABBER decal....not a repop. I actually cut that part of the fender off and saved it....but I don't know where it is. I am sure MAV's stripe and GRABBER is the same.
I have seen a black with red outline on a white car. It looks very much like the black/orang/whte in this thread. It is very hard to tell from the pics though. The monitor doesn't make a big distinction between orng and red on that tiny stripe. The white car I saw was original... no doubt. I don't recall if it was 71 or 72 though. It had the black with red outline and the thing that I liked best of all was the red interior. The car wouldn't stick out in my mind so much if it didn't have the red interior to match the complimentary red pinstripe. I can almost picture the comfortweave door panels in red, so it very well could have been a 71 IIRC. ALSO: Why don't you have the black/yellow border listed under 72??? My Grabber was bone stock and had that combo. It was a 72. Dave
Here's another yellow stripe with orange outline to match the brown Mav posted earlier. This pic is straight out of our gallery.
Thanks for this thread. This is a great source of pictures. I bring my '72 Grabber home Sunday so I will look for the original colors of the stripe. They painted over the original colors, but not very well so I am sure I will be able to find the original colors. It will eventually be painted back to that. Keep the info coming!!!
This thread is over 3 yrs old but I was curious to see if we couldnt update some of this missing pictures
