What is a good price to have someone powdercoat my intake? Should I have them powdercoat the gasket surfaces or leave them bare?
Your oven needs to be electric and it HAS to be a ventilated oven that fresh air constantly cycles through. If you use a normal old household oven, you have an explosion hazard on your hands. The powder in general is very flammable before it cures. You can powder coat over light rust without a problem. If something is heavily rusted, you need to either sand blast it or wire wheel the crap out of it. Too much rust, and it will come out looking orange peeled. Powder coating will hold up fine on your intake manifold. You've got serious problems if your intake is getting 325+ degrees to turn the powder back to a liquid state. I do valve covers, intakes, pulleys, suspension parts, and stuff like that all the time at work. I've got a ton of stuff I am going to do on my car.
This is awesome I'm going to do the shock tower braces and the Monte Carlo bar. Do you have the color code for this? Is this a metallic or a glimmer color?
Its from Caswell....its called SUPER CHROME.....they have 2 chromes, the mentioned an a EXTREME CHROME. The difference? Super Chrome is a single stage. Extreme requires a clear to keep from tarnishing.
That is interesting John, is it more reflective than what you used? Because what you used looks real good.
I have tried both....reflectivity is about the same. The SUPER is more espensive. Extreme is cheaper until you factor in the cost of the clear....then its a push.
Called my local Habor Freight for the powder coating system and they don't have any and don't know when they will. Eastwood has a system for $89 I'm ready to jump on this and have an old electric oven. Any comments on the Eastwood system?
