On my 74 Maverick 2 dr. how much horsepower would I need to run in the low 8's in the 1/8 mile. I would have a 5.13 gear or something around there

I have a 289 that is .030 over, 9 1/2 to one compression with a pretty big cam that runs 7.9 in the 1/8 and that is with a 4.11 gear for the 1/4. I have a set of stock 69 windsor heads that were ported pretty good ... they flowed close to 200 cfm. this is at 3075' altitude and last week the best the D/A got was somewhere around 4000'. sorry i cant tell you a h.p. rating, there isnt a good dyno in town. oh yeah my car weighs about 2700 lbs with me in it. I hope this helps

Mine will run a 8.1 with no traction. It was dyno'd at 303 rwhp. If i would spend the time and money to hook up, it would easily be in the high 7's. I'm running 3:89 rear.

Your engine combo might do it if you had the gear that the calculator showed as ideal for the 1/4 mile.

I remember the first time I got in the 8's in the 1/8th mile. The comet was stock, except it had a 4.56 gear and I had installed a stock, 90 model 302 H.O. out of a mustang. I put a performer RPM intake on it and a four barrel Holley DP ( I think it was a 650cfm). It ran an 8.2 in the 1/8th. I put a NOS sniper kit on it and sprayed it with a 150 shot and it went 7.4. That sorta gives you an idea of what you could do with a stock 302 HO motor.

I love how fast these "stock" cars go, especially when they are "stocked" with all kinds of other engines and aftermarket parts:rolleyes:

No, they are saying, with that gear, theoretically, not considering a multitude of variables that our calculator does not account for, you could run that..
