The 70 I just bought was supposed to be original paint. I know the passenger door was re-painted for sure, but the rest looks original. My question is, was the body painted after the radiator support and inner fenders were installed? There is a paint line that just goes maybe 1/8" beyond the fenderline and slightly gets the body color on the radiator support and inner fender. It doesn't look like a modern re-spray but I am not sure how assembled the car was when they sprayed the exterior. Looks factory to me but trying to figure out how much of the paint on this car is original. Jody
The entire unibody would have been assembled prior to paint. I have seen some cars where the fenders and hood were already on the car when painted.
I know in St.Thomas the hood and fenders were painted off the cars, the unibody was painted body color first, then the engine compartment was sprayed black (until 72) .
my car is a st thomas car and the fenders and hood were painted off car. maybe it was just canadain(sp?) built cars???
The "formerly mine" 1970 Grabber i had was a St. Thomas car and it was painted with the fenders on the car.
