As many of you know, I am restoring a 1972 Ford Maverick Grabber. Can anybody tell me what colors my driveshaft stripes should be? I have the build sheet and it lists the codes as: P T DG
In the picture it looks like:
    PINK
    BURNT ORANGE
    LIME GREEN

Craig, There are probably not too many people that have the correct information on paint marks but I'm betting Bob Perkins might be able to help you. He is a Boss 302 restoration expert and he has written many articles in Mustang Monthly. I have seen several articles related to paint markings and I would be surprised if they were much different than the Maverick.
Here's a link with his phone number. I bet you might be able to get some help from him.

I wonder if Mavericks had paint stripes .... it wasn't like there were different drive shafts ... one for 2-doors and one for 4-doors ...

Ralph Prices car did have stripes on the his leaf springs since there were different springs ...standard and HD ...

Yup, my build sheet has the same codes, it's a 71. A few years ago I put new universals in and since I had it out I sanded down and clearcoated the driveshaft as it was quite rusty. It had paint marks, wish I had taken a picture but I did make notes of the colors and the spacing, etc..... Just looked em up and the colors on mine were Yellow, Pink and Brown, which obviously doesn't match the build sheet, but get this....it didn't just have one set of stripes, it had 3 sets, all the same colors, just in different orders. Did one of the line workers have an "Artistic" moment or lapse of memory????????

maybe the autmoatic's drive shafts came out of a diffrent pile than the ones for stick cars and were marked diffrent as well? since all mavericks didnt come out of the same plant maybe diffrent factories had diffrent procedures and markings?

Hey Dan....been working crazy hours and lots of weekeneds at M/U. I think I finally found the problem with the car stalling...rust in the fuel tank keeps clogging things up. Found an NOS 73 tank and will be installing it this weekend. Hopefully that will get me on the road...finally.
