It's your opinion, T.L. Vinyl tops, shag carpeting, avocado colored kitchens, Neru jackets, leisure suits, platform shoes, side pipes, and Pintos were all popular and wanted during their time. Just because some things may be out of place today, doesn't mean they were out of place yesterday.

I had a Pinto from 1977 to 1981. I loved that car. It did what I asked it to do. Just because I owned a Pinto does not make me an idiot anymore than you thinking that your every opinion is synonymous with actual reality and fact makes you one.

you may think that they are cheesy. But they add to the value of your car now.

Gee, last time I checked, it wasn't "yesterday". I didn't know this thread was about Pintos. Oh, and I never called you (or anyone else in this thread) an idiot...

Not directly, no. But if somebody reads this...

they have to feel especially good about their love for vinyl tops and the smart decision they made to get one, don't they?

Well if the shoe fits. I can't be responsible if someone's feathers get ruffled when being told the truth. It would be a greater insult to be silent and keep them ignorant...

What truth? You have not stated any factual truth about vinyl tops or shag carpeting in this thread. You've only stated opinion. You've stated your opinion, and I'll add the opinion of a lot of others, but you have not stated iron-clad, balck-and-white truth. Just because you think one way about something does not mean that it is the only to think about it nor does it make it fact.

isnt it true that the top wasnt painted when a vinyl was going on, so that the glue would stick better?

if so, that would explain why the roof would rust so badly

The roof of our car was painted. The paint was nice enough that if I hadn't scratched it taking the old top off, it could have buffed out real nice.

    WOW! I never knew that!

Some people like the smell of $#!t too. Does that mean it's only my opinion that it stinks? :hmmm:

Anything that makes a car more prone to rust is idiotic. I'm sorry if that offends you. Some things are just common sense...

My dad hates that I drive 30+ year old cars. He has many reasons for this that, to a normal person who doesn't enjoy 30 year old cars, would make a lot of sense.

I love my 30+ year old cars.

Some people love their vinyl tops.

And yes, some people like the smell of ****.

I'm not the one to judge. Your opinion is your opinion, but don't call it "common sense."

    Glad I could help you.

Stink is in the nose of the beholder.

I'm not offended by anything that makes cars more prone to rust. I'm not offended by you, either. I don't like the old style vinyl tops and I don't like shag carpeting in cars either, but I don't state it like Moses came down off the mountain with it.

My apologies to the readers of this thread. It was stupid for me to let this get out of hand, because 99% of the time, I already know how T.L. is going to respond to any thread. I've been on this forum for several years and I just finally wanted to challenge T.L. and his negative outlook.

You mean "the truth" that vinyl tops suck and can be ranked with other "stupid" stuff of the '70s? That part sounds like opinion to me. Kinda makes me wonder why you even like Mavericks...these cars have long been lumped in with "stupid" stuff from the '70s that should have been forgotten...

You hate vinyl tops, we get that. I happen to like the vinyl top on my car...they were kinda common in the 70s, and I think it looks fine. And it will help me fit in if I am still driving the Mav when I get up there in age. :)

I didn't realize it was "out of hand".

To say I have a "negative outlook", could not be further from the Truth. I like cool things, I don't like stupid things. I'm just not afraid to say it, that's all.

And yes, my opinion is pretty much all that matters...to me. So telling me that something is "just <my> opinion" (as if somehow it doesn't count or matter if it's T.L.'s opinion), is pretty pointless.

Just because I'm not kissing someone's @$$ all the time here, telling them how great their stuff looks, doesn't make me "negative"...

im thinkin azz kissin, or boot lickin aint the point here anymore. looks to me like tl has an opinion(for what its worth), as well as everyone else does. to acknowledge the opinion of someone with whom you do not agree actually invites debate. to debate is to share ideas/thoughts and opinions. i wouldnt waste my time here guys. same old crap flung as far as it can, and it dont even stick on da wall! i like cool too, hahaha, but im big enough to not have to be a puke about everything else.
