Then there was Scott Codon, who used to run his 1983 Cheby Luv pickup around Baytown TX in the late 80s....Used to drive across the border to Louisiana to buy Jim Beam when I, er, he was 18...

Ok, got THAT out of my system.

Welcome to the board. That car shouldn't be too hard to find...Good luck(y)

Thanks, didn't realize this quality pic was still out there. Upon close inspection this picture was taken at Raceway Park in Indianapolis probably at a points meet for Division III, in 1972. If you look closley on the rear quarter you will note my partners at the very begining of this cars career "Dr's Prag, White & Keys". The nomenclature for this signage came from thr Rx in Preparation rather than a traditional r in lowercase. Now with this picture available for all to see maybe someone may know what happened to this exceptional ( by anyone's standards) Maverick.

    Regards, Bruce

Yup. Close family friends. Raymond just retired from Exxon and races a four cylinder roadster in Comp Eliminator. Record holder too. His brother Leroy hasn't been so lucky with life. Drug problems have eaten him up. Still....I learned quite a bit from both of them over the years.

You should hear the stories when all these guys get together. Not just NHRA stuff either. I'm talking "back in the day" stuff from when all of them were teenagers. Funny stuff.

This car was constructed specifically for 1/4 mile drag racing and was never titled for street use. The engine was a 240/300 Ford six extensively reworked, with a modified stock cylinder head which was mandatory under the Modified Production NHRA rules at that time. The fabricated intake manifold used (3) downdraft 48 mm Weber IDA carburetors, until I set the National Record to low (11.31 while wining the 1973 NHRA Summernationals in Englishtown NJ , note it was 11.70 previously) my first NHRA National event win and only NHRA National win with this car. I had always planned to use a very special set of rare 58MM downdrafts as a method of extracting extra HP if the record became too low to compete, which is exactly what happened. Much to the chagrin of my competitors, a few weeks later at a Div 3 points meet in Saginaw MI the first pass with the new manifold and carburetors was 11.17 and the car made a final pass to win this division event of 11.07. Shiortly after that I sold the car to an Elwood Robinson from DE and never heard much more as to the eventual fate of this car primarily because I just started campaigning a replacement I/Gas Pinto which was even more successfull than the Maverick. There was an extensive article that appeared in the December 1973 Car Craft comparing my H/MP vs the Cheverolet counterpart owned and driven by Glen Self.

Thanks for the pic. I just finished a rather lengthy reply to another member in which I made reference to the Dec 1973 Car Craft article. The picture you supplied was a scan of the center fold from that mag and also had (3) Mavericks featured among the total of 13 MP cars pictured.
