Has anyone ever seen this como? I need more carb. clearance and am thinking about doing this but I am not sure if it will look ok. This hood has a lot of rust under the front lip, you cant see it from outside though, so I am not concerned with cutting it up. thanks for any input

I'm not a big fan of the grabber hood in the first place and I've seen them with various scoops over the years. I always though it made an ok hood look ridiculous. Never seen a cowl added but I cant imagine it would look any better. Remember, this is just my opinion.

Since grabber hoods are getting more rare, why not get a regular hood and put a cowl on it and save the grabber hood?

I agree with scrapper. Don't cut up a salvageable grabber hood. You could sell it and buy 3 regular hoods, and cut away...

I have tried to locate a regular hood, but I have not had any luck finding maverick parts locally. A regular hood plus shipping cost would be pricey vs using my grabber hood. But selling my original grabber hood and adding some cash with it to get a complete fiberglass cowl hood is something to think about. what are the hoods worth?

I have seen scoops mounted on Grabber hoods too, and I agree, it looks bad.
    Way too busy IMO.

Another thing to consider with scoops is that bonding glass or ABS scoops on a metal hood never seems to work good. That is why factory scoops are bolt on. The metal expands/contracts and reacts to vibration differently than fiberglass or ABS.
So if you are considering a cowl hood, I have never seen a bolt down version. You would get best results by either getting a glass hood to bond a glass scoop to, or get an aftermarket hood with the scoop already part of the big picture.
Maverick Man sells carbon fiber cowl hoods for less than what a glass hood will cost to buy and then prep for paint.
You could sell the Grabber hood for enough to defray the cost quite a bit.

Hood clearance is one of those things that falls under the "you wanna play, you gotta pay" rule.

I think that combo looks great. Thanks for the picture, now I must find a scoop that will fit like that.

No deal on the trading of hoods, sorry.

If I were you I would still find a fiberglass grabber hood to modify like that, because a good steel original hood is very hard to find.

That, and I will say again, steel and fiber don't mix.
I know professional body guys that won't bond fiber to steel because they want to keep a good reputation. They feel like doing something that will look crappy before long will make them look bad when someone asks the owner who did it.
