This is probaly a stupid question but I am going to ask any way. I have a 71 Comet GT with a 250 6 cyl. The starter sounds like it is turning but it is not engaging to turn the engine over. I am not sure if it is the solenoid or the starter. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.:bouncy:

If the starter is spinning but the motor is not, it could be that the bendix is not engaging the starter to the flywheel or could be a bad section of the flywheel. Hopefully the first.

If your starter bendix is bad better take a close look at the ring gear on your flywheel. It could be that a bad spot on the gear is what made the bendix go bad - or the bendix could make the ring gear wear.
If you just put in a new starter when you have a bad gear you will be replacing both in a short while.
