Was just wondering, What do you think of painted bumpers? I like both, but my bumpers are old & pitted. I could use a grinder, & smooth them out for paint, for cheap. or try to find a better pair. I own a 70 so I think mono-chrome would look cool. I've seen some really neat cars on this site with the same color bumpers. What do you think?
I don't care for bumpers the same color as the body, but a contrasting color, like a dark blue on a light blue car, or black on a light color car, or maybe even a silver gray would look good. That's my .
I did the mono chrome thing and kinda wish i hadnt. But, im with you my bumpers need repair or replaced.
If they were good canidates for re-chroming thats what I would do but since they are pitted I would just paint or powder coat them. I have a set that I think I will try and have powdercoated chrome in the future.
one word 80's your form the 80's right john oh wait was that the 50's .... j/k lol! chome is classic for a life time...
O my southern California butt-hole I think chrome looks great! and I really like chrome, but I think certain projects look better with/without, painted/chrome bumpers. and it was 69'
mine is painted but someday i want chrome. so maybe paint them and see if you like it. if not take them off and have them chromed.
I see alot of racers running glass bumpers. The best and most common approach to color is a cast-iron spray with clear.
Thanks for the input guy's. I may just grind'em & paint'em Cast aluminum, cause I still haven't decided what color I want. I wanted flat black enamel, with silver grabber stripes. kind of a Rat Rod look, but the little lady just rolled her eye's. Kinda the way she did when it arrived on the trailer. I like bright yeller too, but I got the same look. So it may end-up being Grabber Blue. Something I can color sand after I spray it
Go for Chrome all the way. I also had a 70 that was converted to a V8 that had the black out bumpers on a dark blue car that looked OK but I still think it would have looked awesome with the chrome bumpers.
i was thinking about sanding mine and painting them some color just not sure what, my car is bronze, maybe be black?
With a bronze car and a semi big bumper up front I would have to go with the color of the car or leave the chrome alone. Don't forget guys and gals (nothing you don't already know) Steel wool with lots of soap will get rid of surface rust on chrome in a hurry and doesn't tear up the chrome if you use enough soap and keep working your way to finer grade steel wool.
