finally got my 74 running and engine painted

    painted the entire engine bay and everything without taking the motor out :) ... ill post pics tomorrow im excited :D

    painted just about all of it in one day too did a lil touch ups teh next day and did it with the engine inside and everything only removed alternator and a few other parts to chrome them...:D

    Wow, huge difference, really nice! That must have been tough with the engine and all the surrounding "stuff" in the way, but you did a great job!

    what tips do you have for me to try and do this with the engine in????

    I could pull the motor but that would take me a full week to pull the motor paint and put it back in as I only do it part time.....

    did you prime it first???

    Yeah I second that, how'd you do it? how did you prep the engine bay fo rthis, did you de greaswe, rough, sand etc?

    what i did was remove the alternator and the horn and pretty much everything on the sides then removed the fan, radiator, and air cleaner, i seperatley painted each peice chrome and waited on teh air cleaner. i then degreased the entire engine and firewalls a few times rinsed em then degreased again rubbing away any grime and gunk it had left over... painted the entire engine and firewalls with Rust-Oleum flat black then painted the engine with a heat resistant black coating... i painted the valve cover with a heat resistant Old Ford Blue and then sanded down teh Air Cleaner before i painted it as well... after everything dried put it back up and did a few touch ups... And Ther YA GO! Have Fun :D

    Will the rustolem adhere to the painted surfaces without " roughing them up first?
