All V8 cars had 5 lugs regardless of brakes until 73 or 74 when the sixes got 5 lugs as well. Again, didn't matter about brakes.
Every Mav I have owned has been V8, 5 lug, and 4 drum.
    72, 72, 72, 72, and a 75.

    Edit:
Draggon13 brought up a good point...
Some years the 250 got 5 lugs too.
Personally, I have never seen a 74 with 4 lugs.

I own 3 1974 cars, my Maverick ordered in 9/73 built 10/73, blue Comet built in 9/73 and a green LDO can't remember when it was built, all have a glove box. Funny thing between the blue Comet and my Mav is the Comet has loop pile carpeting, 73 leftover I assume and the Mav has cut pile carpeting. All three cars are 5 lug, both Comets are 250 cars and the Mav is a V8. The green Comet was ordered with discs, and the blue one was not, but has them due to a generous 75 V8 LDO 4 door. The interiors of both cars are identical other than the A/T and M/T stuff, same exact seat material in the same color, radios AM vice AM/FM Stereo, and Rear Defrost. Great for swapping parts! I have seen several LATE built 73's with the tray and not the glove box, my thinking it was some plants had leftovers and some did not, but they all looked like the LDO trays out of the 72 cars, padded and stitched.
    Rhyme or reason??

My '72 250 Maverick has 4 wheel drums with 4 bolt wheels. both my 73 are V8 and 5 lugs but my 74 parts car has a 250 and four lugs.
I thought the sixes came with four lugs and the 8's with 5 lugs.

my take on this is that it was built by FORD. all bets are off as to why and when they did anything.:)

The '73 4 door w/ 250 i had came with 5 lugs and drums on all 4 corners. I don't think discs were avalible in '73

Both 250 4 lug cars I have seen were small bumper cars, a 72 and a 69.5; All 74 250 cars I have seen were 5 lug, yours would be the first big bumper car I have heard of that had 4 lugs. Was it a factory 250 L code car?

Does it have a small back bumper? If it has a small bumper attached to factory inner brackets welded to the trunk floor ... I would say the dash was changed. Also ... I think 74 was the first year of the plastic air-cleaner intake so the radiator support should have and opening for it if it's a 74 ...

My 73 had the plastic thing.
Maybe pull the fender off and get the vin off the inner fender, that will settle it. The dash could have been changed??

I'm with Dave on this one, pull the right front fender away at the top and check the VIN on the inner fender top rail. That one is just too hard to get rid of, especially if you don't know it's there.

I thought all 250's and V8's starting in '71 had 5 lugs and starting in '73 I thought they all had 5 lugs. I parted out an all original '73 200 6 with 5 lugs.

Must have missed a post, don't remember anything about a brand new paint job.
